For .308 this scope is a great choice. I'm using this exact same scope on my M&P10 and it's doing the job just fine. Most of my shooting is between 100 and 300 yards so I feel qualified to answer your question. I like the Vortex line of scopes. The build quality is up there and if you experience problems, they'll back the product. Good luck!

Great question! This is the perfect scope for shooting out to 1000 yards! It does everything scopes costing 6 times as much will do when you purchase it in FFP (First Focal Plane) The subtensions are terrific and the EP glass gives you the clarity to shoot at long yardage. The Zero-Stop feature allows you to bring your scope back close to your zeroing point quickly so you can reset the scope for a different yardage shot supplied by whatever ballistics program calculator program you are using. I currently use 4 of these in the 4x16x50, and all shoot equally alike, so Vortex is very consistant in manufacturing. They are much lighter than most long range scopes due to being made from aluminum so don't add too much to a hunting rifle like most long range scopes. You will find 16 power is more than enough magnification for shots up to and beyond 1000 yards.
Definitely. I have worked my way out to 1000 and recently did the milk just challenge (10 shots in 10 minutes to hit a milk jug at 1000 yards) with this scope. I am wanting to stretch further than 1000 now, so I may want a bit more magnification, but for what you can do with a .308, this will cover 95% or it.
