In My Own Words:

I have lived in the outdoors for a large part of my life. I worked in the corporate business community for a portion of my life because I thought that I would need to in order to provide money and care to raise my children. What a huge mistake and 40 years consumed of my life. So now I am an over-educated hermit living an off-grid life on an off-grid farm in the forests of North Central Idaho.

Trigger Tech makes Trigger Tack!

Written on May 20, 2024

I decided to go with this one and really like how crisp it breaks and the straight trigger in my new 300 RUM custom long range rifle I just had built from a SS Remington Magnum 700BDL action,30-inch Lothar/Walther SS barrel,McMillan stock all blue printed and shooting.268 5-shot groups. Beat that!

How Great Though Are!third

Written on Mar 16, 2024

My first thought that came to my mind after I shot my first shot after I had set up the camera was wow, unbelievably spectacular view from a distance of over 2 miles away from the target I had just shot at. The impact on the target, when hit on the third round was shown spectacularly on my iPad. From there on the day just got better and better each shot as they were dialed in to them best infinite pictures possible. When I moved the camera to 15hundred and 12hundred yards to shoot other rifles from shorter distance, it was wonderful. I am a partial paraplegic and have a difficult time navigating myself around to set and check my targets usually bbseetaking more of my time than I get to spend shooting. These cameras have really changed the way I can practice my long range shooting. I think everyone needs a set of them. I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who shoots over a 200yd limit consistently!

Update after finally getting over the three mile barrier.

Written on Mar 11, 2024

It took me and my friends forever to get to the 2-mile club because when we did it there weren't any good scopes available with enough elevation or windage adjustments built into them to be able to accommodate adjustments to 3500 yds plus with crosshairs thin enough to compensate for what we needed to have. We used our own milling machines to make many of our components, including bullets to handle the B.C.'s that was needed in. 338 and. 308 once we got our hands on some Retumbo and built a. 338 Edge and 300RUM with Luther Walther 36" and 34.5" stainless steel barrels, respectively. Before 2017 was over we managed to put holes in two different pieces of 24" square 1/4" thick steel at 5286 yards and 7051 yards respectively and more money than my house probably cost back in those days. Interestingly enough was the day I made the 2-mile club,my first and second shots hit the target at 12 and dead center. I never pulled the trigger for a third time!

Make your AR 15 shoot less than 1" groups at 100

Written on Mar 05, 2024

The worst thing I've found on every AR I've purchased is the trigger pull feels like I am tied up to a lead boat anchor. At least a 6 pound brick of lead that doesn't help you shoot with very good accuracy. Once I added this trigger I was shooting groups of less than an inch from the 3 inch groups I was shooting before. I ended up buying 3 more of them for my other ARs and my wife's!

Shooting Accurately is more fun than Shooting!

Written on Jan 16, 2019

It's amazing how things have changed in the past 6 decades since I started shooting and hunting. The first 2 scopes, that were considered "High End", I purchased in the early "60's" were a Redfield 3x9 w/Accutrac and a Leopold VX-2. I originally had low end Bushnell scopes until the Tasco Trophy Hunter found a place on every rifle I owned. I seemed you could not find a better scope for the money! As years went by the Leopold VX-3 remained the standard for several decades No one really realized that better bases and rings played an equal position in increased accuracy until the late 80's when someone discovered ring lapping and Locktite made tighter shots and the first focal plane enhanced longer shots. Along with this lens coating enhanced the clarity of a scope and long range hunting coupled with the military sniper became the incentive for a host of new scope manufacturers. This is what spawned companies like Vortex and Nightforce and brought in the competition for all manufacturers to make better scopes. Currently my favorite long range hunting rifles sport Nightforce, Swarovski and Vortex and I have purchased three of the Vortex Crossfire scopes I have mounted on an AR-15,Savage .17HMR and my Benjamin NP-2 .22 pellet gun. The AR and .17HMR both shoot sub MOA groups and the Benjamin will put pellet after pellet in the same hole at 40 yards which is absolutely amazing. I love the Crossfire for what it is and does and coparing it next to the Redfield and Leopold is close t

Fantastic Varmint Scope

Written on Jan 16, 2019

I purchased this scope for being able to shoot rockchucks out to 500 yards+ with my custom. 22-.250 AI Remington Mag.and was surprised beyond belief I was able to make consistent shots with it at this range. This scope, for the money, is a nice clear scope and the crosshairs stand out better than the Nightforce NXS I originally intended to use until I purchased a 6.5 Creedmoor that is now wearing it. For the type of hunting I use this rifle for it's absolutely perfect for coyotes, rockchucks and prairie dogs.

Best Long Range Scope Ever Made!

Written on Dec 16, 2018

I have been shooting Nightforce NXS scopes since they came out with the R-1 reticle over 10 years ago. The only issue I have had was the thickness of the crosshairs when shooting over 1000 yards. The ATACR and BEAST solved this issue but shooting past 1500 yards needed a boost of comfort by increasing magnification beyond 22 power. The new ATACR7 x 35 x 56 was the key to me shooting beyond one mile accurately and I finally broke the 2500 yard barrier.I can't say anything bad about this scope because I cannot find a thing bad about this scope. Yes, it isn't cheap by any means but there are other brands far more expensive and they all pale by comparison. You won't buy a better scope than this unless Nightforce builds it!

Best Quality Long Range Shooters Scope for Less $$$

Written on Dec 16, 2018

I purchased my first NXS R-1 W/Zero Stop over 10 years ago and the only regret I had was buying the 50mm Objective Lens rather than the 56mm. That being said I have established a relationship with Nightforce scopes and my favorite rifles. Coupled with Nightforce 20 degree mounts, Nightforce rings and Nightforce cosine angle indicator and level in front top ring I have rifles in six calibers shooting sub half minute groups at 100 yards! Beat that!

Objective lens caps have fit perfect on all my scopes

Written on Dec 16, 2018

Make sure to use a caliper to measure the outside diameter of your scope lens before ordering! Be prepared for a snug fit by opening the cap before placing tube on lens end making sure the hinge is on top. I probably wouldn't recommend this for a scope with an AO adjustable end unless the amount of adjustment is limited to a quarter turn so the end cap doesn't bind against your rifle when adjusted to infinity. Just push the lower tab with your thumb and it pops open. The eyepiece cover has been less than great due to splitting issues on the tube

Universal fit for the scopes listed

Written on Sep 18, 2018

I ordered my first Nightforce NXS scope when Nightforce brought it out with the R-1 reticle in 2009. It was to be the first of many Nightforce scopes I have purchased since then the last one being the ATACR 7 X 35 X 56 earlier this year. To say I enjoy Nightforce scopes would be a complete misnomer. I love them!
The ATACR is built with a switch lever at the factory. The major complaint I have had with all Nightforce scopes is the magnification adjustment is extremely stiff to turn and even worse in cold weather. After experience how much easier a small stud attached to the turning ring of the magnification adjuster made it rotate with ease, when I saw this product I knew I had to try it. Originally, I purchased one from Vortex that didn't fit as it was way oversized. Because I owned a Vortex Razor, I used it on it. This fits my NXS but leaves a small gap which I feel might weaken it so I made a 1/16" spacer so it would screw down flush and tight. Seems to work just fine but if anything could be changed, it could have a shorter stem as it is a little overkill. Other than that, Warne did a great job on this unit and I recommend them to anyone using Nightforce adjustable magnification riflescopes.
