R Craig Fisher's Review of Vortex Crossfire II AO 4-12x40mm 1in Tube Second Focal Plane Rifle Scope
It's amazing how things have changed in the past 6 decades since I started shooting and hunting. The first 2 scopes, that were considered "High End", I purchased in the early "60's" were a Redfield 3x9 w/Accutrac and a Leopold VX-2. I originally had low end Bushnell scopes until the Tasco Trophy Hunter found a place on every rifle I owned. I seemed you could not find a better scope for the money! As years went by the Leopold VX-3 remained the standard for several decades No one really realized that better bases and rings played an equal position in increased accuracy until the late 80's when someone discovered ring lapping and Locktite made tighter shots and the first focal plane enhanced longer shots. Along with this lens coating enhanced the clarity of a scope and long range hunting coupled with the military sniper became the incentive for a host of new scope manufacturers. This is what spawned companies like Vortex and Nightforce and brought in the competition for all manufacturers to make better scopes. Currently my favorite long range hunting rifles sport Nightforce, Swarovski and Vortex and I have purchased three of the Vortex Crossfire scopes I have mounted on an AR-15,Savage .17HMR and my Benjamin NP-2 .22 pellet gun. The AR and .17HMR both shoot sub MOA groups and the Benjamin will put pellet after pellet in the same hole at 40 yards which is absolutely amazing. I love the Crossfire for what it is and does and coparing it next to the Redfield and Leopold is close to perfection. You won't beat this lower end scope by any manufacturer because of service and lifetime warranty. Buy one and you won't be disappointed.
Pros:
Smooth Adjustments, great glass and warranty
Cons:
Make sure that you buy good rings and lap scope
Best Used for:
Small game, Varmints and plinking
Would Recommend:
Yes

I have lived in the outdoors for a large part of my life. I worked in the corporate business community for a portion of my life because I thought that I would need to in order to provide money and care to raise my children. What a huge mistake and 40 years consumed of my life. So now I am an over-educated hermit living an off-grid life on an off-grid farm in the forests of North Central Idaho.
