I've owned 3 tripods. All of them seem to have a problem with pivoting and panning smoothly. The have a charter when you move them . Is one smooth?

How much weight can you add to the hook? If the unit is capable of holding 10 pounds, would it be that minus what is mounted on it?

Vortex does not provide any specifications in regards to the amount of weight the balance hook can handle. The 10 pound max load rating is realistically only for the tripod head, so you could likely hang a little more weight on the hook, but if you need an exact weight specification you will need to reach out to Vortex directly.

Yes, because that is the only way to mount a binocular to a tripod if the binocular does not have an external tripod mount.
