Will this range finder lock onto non-reflective pins at the golf course as well? I’m looking for a unit that is dual purpose hunting/golf.

I'd recommend a rangefinder that allows switching between first and second target priority, like the following model:

Why is this getting such diverse reviews (not only on OP). Are individual units truly that ‘hit and miss’ on quality and performance? Makes no sense

In general, the Ranger-series Rangefinder has been extremely well received since its inception as the Ranger1000 many years ago. Without a specific case or review, it would be speculation as to what occurred, or why a unit did not meet an individual's expectations, however, they have been a solid rangefinder for many, many years!

Yes, the Ranger 1800 is equipped with both Line-of-Sight (showing true LOS distance & angle degrees) and Horizontal Component Distance (HCD).
