It doesn't really matter as long as its a AAA battery.

Lithium has longer storage life, puts out full voltage until right before it dies, won't corrode the inside of your battery compartment and connection contacts if you leave it in there to die, and can be lawfully tossed in the trash in more places than other types. But get a good brand name, not the no-name knock-offs. Energizer, Phillips, Duracell have been the best - in that order - in my experience, with AAAs. Haven't been able to find anything but Energizer for about a year anyway.

Definitely lithium. Alkaline batteries will leak and ruin your optic. Especially when beat around on a firearm.

I strongly recommend a lithium battery. Every time I’ve tried another lithium battery it ended up corroding inside the housing and the optic fails to work.

Do not use alkaline batteries in items you care about or trust to save your life. Google search alkaline battery leaks. You’re rolling the dice for when (not if) it happens.

others have said the rest, but lithium batteries are also much lighter, and maintain/output in extreme cold better.

“Expert” Armando’s advice is anything but. Do not put alkaline batteries in devices you value. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but eventually you will experience corrosive leakage that will lead you back here to buy a replacement optic.
