For 5.56 its based off of 77 grain bullets. Here is more specifics on the reticle:

According to the manual it is based off of the Standard Bullet Drop for Popular 5.56 mm / .223 Loads
5.56 mm / .223 55 - 77 grain boat tail bullets 2700 - 3000 FPS muzzle velocity. That being said you can use a ballistics app like Strelok, enter the bullet speed (FPS), size and dimensions and Strelok will calculate the proper sub-crosshair values for you...and a lot more.

The manual says it is calibrated for 55 gr. to 77 gr. loads at 2700 to 3000 fps. That is a broad range and should be verified by actual shooting.
