Thomas's Review of 5.11 Tactical All Mission Plate Carrier
After reading the previous review from Sean, I feel badly because I haven't experienced any of the shifting or the chafing he mentions. I will mention here that there is an elastic strap inside the armor pouch for smaller plates. Were I to use 8x10 sized plates, I'd slide it under/inside that band to keep that slop at bay.
There never seems to be reviews from smaller guys but I, too, am a small dude at 5'8", 150# and finding a carrier that fits me is pretty tough but based on the few reviews I could find at the time, I'm really glad I took a chance on this. Previously, one carrier I'd used was an AR500 Testudo - that really did fit large on me, so I sold it. This fits much better!
Using CATI Armor multi-curve, Level III+ plates with Build Up coating in this carrier, I promise it mysteriously wears lighter than previous carriers with the same set up; it FEELS lighter! Despite the super thin appearance, the shoulder pads distribute the weight well and don't dig into your shoulders. While I haven't spent 8 hrs in this thing in a class or on duty, after a few hrs at the range I honestly believe it'd be no problem.
The Hexgrid looks like nothing out there, and at first, it's weird and very different. PLEASE NOTE: it IS normal to weave your MOLLE like a snake rather than the straight line you're used to. This will make weaving pouches with thick MOLLE straps (think Condor) more of a challenge, however, the T3 Gear Tactical pouches weave like a dream, and are much lower profile due to design. Additionally, the Hexgrid allows angled mounting, which others cannot offer. In reality, I probably won't use all of the possible configurations with this carrier but it's nice to have the the options available if there's a need.
Lastly, the drag handle is an epic design that others truly should adopt. This design allows the rescuer to pull from a distance, thus making this a much more user functional process, than the standard drag handle configurations out there.
The All Missions Carrier is well thought out and loaded with features, all for a reasonable price. Good job, 5.11!
