Most Helpful Negative Review Excellent quality, but too small for its intended purpose!!!
I'm 6'1' and I purchased this bag thinking that it would be perfect (not to small and not too big for my 13" laptop, laptop charger, a few work documents, and a few pens etc. Sadly is was wrong and had to purchase the LIMA size (next size up) instead and am satisfied. CON: Despite checking out photos online, this bag is way too small to hold anything more than your laptop and charger. It would not close properly and would shred my papers if I were to add even a thin file of papers into the mix. It may work for you if you are just looking to carry an ipad/ipad mini. It looked like a murse...

Cool brief, but very limited space

by AZskeeter, from AZ, United States Written on March 24, 2020
I needed a small carry that would fit next to our jump seat without interfering with getting in or out of cockpit. This is the smallest laptop bag from 5.11 and it holds just my bare essentials. My laptop, stream light flashlight, passports and documents required for my job. It is pretty rugged and I imagine that it should last me many years. The only major drawback is the size, if you carry a lot of stuff with you, I would recommend the larger versions.

5.11 Mike Messneger bag

by Asian guy, from TX, United States Written on October 20, 2016
This is the best conceal carry messenger bag that I have owned so far. I really like Velcro interior panels and the Velcro holster combination. Also, the built in body strap is awesome for motorcycle riders, it prevents the bag flapping around during high speed.

Perfect for iPad

by Chuck, from UT, United States Written on April 27, 2016
Just took this on a business trip, this is great for holding an iPad Air 2, its charger, a cell phone charger, a backup charging battery, my travel documents, some papers, and a water in one side pocket and some candy bars in the other. Great carry on. Normally use it for taking my iPad to clients and holding a file. The front pockets (under the flap) hold an energy bar, flashlight, spare pens, business cards, knife pocket, wet ones. This bag is very versatile. Just be warned, you can't pack too much because interior pockets are flat, and this bag only has 3" width. If you need a bigger size, just move up to the next version of this bag. The shoulder pad made carrying this bag in the airport....well, no more sore shoulders - its' great! Great for work, or great alternative for concealed carry, or both!
Pros:
  • Lots of pockets
  • low weight
  • Great shoulder strap
  • Neatly holds iPad versions
  • Interior & Exterior zipper pockets
  • Interior zipper mesh pockets
  • Conceal carry pockets
  • Zippered document pocket
  • 2 water bottle side pockets
  • Fits under airplane seat
Cons:
  • Small flat pockets
Best Used for:
  • Travel
  • Work
  • Conceal Carry
  • Play

Good Bag, good price

by MS, from TX, United States Written on July 7, 2015
Fast delivery, very durable, small bag, fits no bigger than 13.5 laptop. Alot of pouches but it's still a small bag. Tapered water bottle holder so does not hold standard bottle.can use as personal bag on airport.

Okay for a tablet or small laptop, but that is about it.

by Jeremy, from MO, United States Written on June 30, 2015
This is a very well made bag, with great materials, but a little over-engineered. There are plenty of pockets for all kinds of things, but you run into trouble if you actually put anything in the pockets. The main compartment of the bag has two padded dividers that take up most of the internal volume. The padded divider in the back is for a laptop, but is has to be a small laptop (less than 12.5" wide, maybe 13"). I'm not sure what the second padded divider is for (laptop and a tablet?), but it takes up a lot of space. With absolutely nothing in it, the bag is already about 2" thick. The max thickness of the bag is listed as 3.5", so that doesn't leave you with much room to actually put anything in the bag. It will expand to a little over 4" thick if you really stuff it, but then it bulges out, things are tight to get in and out and it looks like a lumpy mess. The bag also has a concealed carry compartment on the back, but again, if you actually put a pistol in there it bulges out and is tight to get in and out if there is anything else in the bag. This is especially true if you have a laptop in the back. The rigid laptop makes the pistol stick out and creates a curve right in the middle of the bag so it rocks back and forth against your body or if you set it down on a table. I ordered the bag in OD Trail, which is a nice color scheme and I really want to like this bag, but I am going to return it. It's just too tight and lumpy once I put my stuff in it.

Is there too much of a good thing?

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on December 5, 2013
This particular item was unusual to rate because what would usually be considered a pro, actually turned out to be a con - organizational features.

Organized space is certainly ample. There are pockets within compartments, made of mesh and canvass, secured with velcro and zippers. If you can't find an organizational method that you like in this bag, it's probably not an organizational method that you're actually looking for. The problem, however, is that compartments take up space. With an already compact bag (which in overall size is perfect in my opinion), flooding the interior with extra layers of fabric to create pockets actually takes up most of the interior space.

Although I wasn't able to store as much as I had anticipated, I was certainly able to store all that I needed. On top of that, it's all well organized. Kind of a trade off, I suppose.

The bag's construction and material are excellent and of great quality. The stitching is strong and neat and it appears that great time was taken to ensure that the seams hold through heavy use. All-in-all, the quality is right on par with what we've come to expect from 5.11 Tactical's products and you won't be disappointed with quality and workmanship.

The bag carries well and is very comfortable. The shoulder strap is nicely padded and contains several small areas of a grippy rubberized material that keep the bag from slipping off of most clothing fabrics.

Overall, this is a great bag. My negative comments a...
