Most Helpful Positive Review Great Holster for the Money
I purchased this holster for use in competition that involves running, moving, rolling, jumping, etc. I wanted the level II retention to secure the pistol through all foreseeable movements that could/would be encountered in competition. I bought this holster to use with a M&P Pro 5" C.O.R.E. model that I am running with a Trijicon RMR. This was one of the few holsters with the level of retention I wanted that I could find pictured with an optic mounted. To my disappointment, however, it required significant modification to get my pistol to fit. Upon further inspection and reflection, ...

Nice Carry

by Mike, from IN, United States Written on September 30, 2016
Holster is a little bulky, but after viewing on line, that is what I expected. I like the holster. I have a JP red dot sight mounted on a 9mm (C.O.R.E.), and though I read a review that said it would not work, mine does. I have to lightly press the pistol into the holder to make the locking mechanism click, but there seems to be very little pressure on the sight cover.

Great holster

Wanted off duty holster with retention capabilities. This .et the need. Durable construction and paddle or belt loop attachments are a huge plus. Where was this holster when I was working plain clothes?

5.11 thumbdrive pistol holster for Mandy 9mm

by Bomber525, from WA, United States Written on March 17, 2016
I ordered the thumbdrive holster because I installed a burris fastfire 3 red dot sight. I needed a holster to accommodate the sight and the thumbdrive holster worked as described. The price was a little steep for a holster, but it was worth it as it locks the pistol in until you want it out. Ordering from optics planet was quick and delivery was just as fast. Will order from them again.
Pros:
  • light weight
  • Easy withdrawal
  • fits weapon well
Cons:
  • pricy but worth it
  • Not for concealed carry, too bulky
Best Used for:
  • Open Carry (if you're into that sort of thing)
  • Range, off duty carry, concealed with jacket or sweatshirt

Awesome holster for S&W Pro Core Series

by Mrbillme, Verified Owner from IN, United States Written on August 12, 2015
This holster is build specifically for the 9mm S&W Pro Core Series. Holster is very solid on belt with either the paddle or belt loop setup. I shoot competition so I like the amount of adjust-ability built in. I also mounted an optic on gun, holster doesn't interfere with it.

Very Secure

by TN Art, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on August 4, 2015
Good holster - holds pistol very securely and is very stable on thigh rig.
Modular approach provides lots of flexibility in use.
Decidedly not a small piece of gear, but a great open carry platform.
Best Used for:
  • Hiking, self-defense

When I placed my M&P 9mm Pro Series into this holster for the first time I knew I had found the perfect holster. The fit is phenomenal. I love the thumb release mechanism. Optics Planet gave me a great price. Would recommend to anyone both the website and holster.

Just what I wanted

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on July 30, 2013
As a new M&P 9 (4.25") owner, I wanted something to make outdoors carrying easier. This holster fits the bill perfectly. Well-made, rugged, lightweight, and doesn't have unnecessary features some other holsters have that just weigh you down or get snagged. And the thumb drive is, quite simply, perfectly positioned and with just the right amount of tension. Highly recommended!!
Pros: Ergonomics, very tactile, lightweight.
Cons: None

A very good holster.

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on June 14, 2013
I purchased this holster in anticipation of Open Carry passing in my state. I also am a CHL/NRA instructor and wanted an example of a retention holster for demonstration purposes.

Setup is easy you can switch from the belt module to the paddle module by removing three screws. No special tools are needed just a common Phillips screwdriver.

This holster is too thick foe concealed carry unless you are wearing a heavy winter coat that would mask the bulge under you clothes.

The thumb latch is very secure and quite natural to use. Of the retention holsters I have used I like this model the best because it has the ease of a thumb break holster with the security of a level 2 holster. On a scale of 1-5 I will give it a 4.5.
Pros: easy setup, easy draw
Cons: too bulky for Concealment

Perfect for OWB Non-Concealed Carry at Range or Work

by Legacy Reviewer, from PA, United States Written on April 4, 2013
Love this holster, but don't count on using it for concealed carry...it sits away from the body too far for that. I use it for competition and love it in that capacity
Pros: Excellent fit and operation
Cons: Hard to conceal
