Top Notch Form Fit and Function
Please Note: If you intend to connect an Aero Precision Handguard to a standard threaded upper receiver, you will need a M5E1 Handguard Barrel Nut. You will need to select between an Aero/DPMS threaded barrel nut and an Armalite threaded barrel nut, depending on your upper receiver.

Prepare for some work.
First off the quality is great. Solid piece of steel and machined well. Works great with the Aero handgaurd. Took me almost an hour to time this thing so I could get 65ft/lb torque AND have the gas tube notch in the right place. Do some research and find some info on how to determine which shims to ...

Areo M5E1 barrel nut
Arrived in good fashion and fairly quickly. Im mot sure how many shims usually come with the kit but I received only 1, so I hope I don't need more than that! Otherwise everything was quick and easy. Glad OP is here cause lord knows Areo never has ANYTHING in stock....
Pros:
- In stock!
Cons:
- Only 1 shim included
Would recommend: Yes
barrel nut
Not enough shims to clock the barrel nut. now I have to place another order to finish my project

Aero Barrel Nut

M5E1 Handguard Barrel Nut
a must-have barrel nut for a builder looking to use the M5E1 handguard. The supplied shims were a bit delicate and I destroyed a few between test fitting and actually torqueing the nut down, but there were enough that I managed to get it all assembled using a standard mil spec armorer's wrench.
Pros:
- Great lockup
Cons:
- Expensive
Best Used for:
- AR10

Aero Precision M5E1 Handguard Barrel Nut
First AR10 build. Worked as it should. Nice quality.

barrel nut
Seems to be a well built piece. It was delivered much quicker than I thought so that was a nice surprise. Waiting to see if it will work with my 308. Its an older gun so finding the correct parts has been a bit difficult.

Needle in a haystack
First off this thing is sweet, fits like a glove and is super easy to interchange out hand guards while using the same barrel nut. Plus OP was the only dealer to have them in stock which is a dream come true.
Pros:
- Being in stock and intercompatibility
Cons:
- Being sold separately from the handguard
Would recommend: Yes
Proper torque
Any thing over 30 psi, 30-80 is good? Seems that some user are trying for more torque than require. My wife's is in the mail, when it arrives we will use anti seize on the nut hand tighten starting with one shim looking for the sweet spot that will let me torque over 30 psi with the least amount of shims as possible
Would recommend: Yes
Why did Aero do this?
In order to use one of their "Enhanced" Handguards, unless you have the proper receiver, you have to use this barrel nut. It only has 4 channels for the gas tube to go through. To ensure proper timing they included 5 spacing shims. Problem is even with all 5 shims the channel never lines up. So you can either return every you bought and change manufacturers, or buy yet another pack of shims from them for $6. Why would they sell such a poorly designed system. At the very least include enough shims to properly time it. I recommend going somewhere else. Aero usually makes good stuff. But this is lousy.
Best Used for:
- Trash cans
