OCL Sportsman's Review of AIM Sports Inc Alpha 6 4.5-27X50 30mm Rifle Scope With MR1 MRAD Reticle

I received this scope (4.5-27x50) 8/24/2018. I have not mounted it on a rifle yet. I don't know if it can hold zero, if it can hold up to recoil, nor do I know if there are any recoil restrictions. Below is information I received from Aim Sports which led to my purchase:

".......We defined “HD glass” as low dispersion, high quality glass that has been multi-coated to provide top performance in image clarity and contrast. The Alpha 6 scopes are semi-apochromatic, as they use Extra-low Dispersion glass objective lenses to correct for chromatic aberration. The light transmission level is around 94%
The field of view at 100 yards is 40.3’-8.2’ for the 2.5-15x and 22.7’-3.8’ for the 4.5-27x model. The Minimum eye relief at high magnification is 3.5” and the max is 4” at lower magnification.....The range of adjustment for the Windage and Elevation is 60 Mills (10 revolutions - 60 clicks per revolution - 1/10th mil per click) Each click moves the reticle 1/10th of a mill."

The Reticle is the same Reticle as Discovery Optics' HD DLTW FFP reticle for those with the Stelok Pro ballistic App. Just uncheck FFP & input the following: (min magnification), (max magnification) and 10x for the (R:) [Reticle Subtension Validity].

Based on the glass clarity, matching reticle & turrets, turret travel, magnification range, illuminated reticle and other specifications this scope is well worth the $250-$333 price. It would have been better able to be utilized as an entry level long range 2nd Focal Plane optic with 5x and 20x magnification markings with the existing Reticle Subtension Validity of 10x or had the 'Reticle Subtension Validity' been set to 23x with the present markings (20x - ideally). It's still a great value.
Pros:
  • Nice reticle
  • 3 inch Sunshade included. Bikini cover that works with or without the Sunshade attached.
  • Tool-less re-Zero. Just the thumb & pointer finger needed to pinch and turn.
  • 10x Reticle Subtension Validity with a 10x magnification marking.
  • At least as clear as a Nikon Pro Staff 5 up to 23x from 10m -300m, if not better.
  • Good Low-light performance with clarity & detail out to 150 yards (at 27x) until 8:23pm; Until 8:25pm at 23x.
  • Off settings between each of the 6 illumination settings. 1, 2 and 3 are good and usable.
  • Turret travel: 6 mils per revolution; 10 revolutions (60 milliradians) of travel for each turret. The revolutions & click amounts are there but I have not checked their tracking accuracy nor have I been able to see if I have any "empty clicks" (just heari
  • Good Eye Relief specifications - 3.5 inch (max magnification) to 4.0 inch (min. magnification).
  • No noticable color distortion out to approximately 300 meters.
Cons:
  • Brightness settings 4, 5 and 6 were too bright for my taste. 3 green settings of the 1, 2 and 3 levels would have been a great addition to go with the 3 lower red illumination settings.
  • Fussy Focus. You have to be exact on the focus knob to get a good picture at 27x magnification near (10m-15m) and far (250-300m). Some prefer it that way.
  • No (5x) nor (20x) magnification markings: Magnification Markings are 4.5x, 6x, 7x, 8x, 10x, 13x, 17x, 23x & 27x. If my Reticle Subtension Validity is 10x - Please give me 5x & 20x markings so that the math will be easy if I choose shoot at a lower magnifi
  • The Turrets are audible but displays some slight movement/slippage of the markings when in the "locked down" position but so does most scopes in the price range.
  • One may not be able to lock the turrets in the down position on the exact mark they desire.
Best Used for:
  • Competitive shooting were 10x magnification will suffice.
  • Non-competitive shooting where a large magnification range is desired for near and distant targets.
  • Budget/entry-level builds where versatility is needed. (Hunting, Benchrest, near distance plinking to 500m, perhaps 1000m steal targets).
