JRJ2000's Review of Aimpoint CompM3 Red Dot Sight

I bought mine used about 8 years ago ( it was close to that old when I got it) and it is the red dot that made me never want another cheap sight again. I got mine with the honeycomb cover which helped force me to learn how to use a red dot correctly (both eyes open) and even with it being the 4 moa version, hitting targets 100 yards away is effortless on my AR pistol. Regardless of how dumb I was with it (bumping it around mostly), it just wants to be a tank and never budge (since I got it with an Aimpoint riser with it) and it has never once lost its zero unless I removed it from my pistol and didn’t put it back in the same spot. Then on top of that, I was very skeptical of the 50k hour battery life until the first time I realized I left it on the last time I was at the range, 3 months before I noticed. I haven’t got to test out if it really gets a full 50k hours but the fact I could leave it on for 3 months and still have everything work perfectly was enough to make me a believer. Now I'm addicted to quality optics and even though it can be an expensive addiction, it’s cheaper in the long run when you aren’t constantly buying cheap garbage just hoping you one day find a unknown gem. Trust me, that gem never comes so stack up that money for a little bit and get the good stuff. The way I explain it to people is comparing sights to mechanics tools. You don’t buy bargain bin tools hoping to get Snap-on performance or life so when it comes to the tool you use to protect yourself and your family, don’t buy the cheap Amazon stuff thinking it’s good enough to protect yourself when you need it the most.
