I went through two horrible 10x52s from Alpen. I'm of the opinion that the company itself realized they were "dysfunctional." So, honoring their airtight warranty they completely replaced them with a Shasta Ridge 10x42, not exactly what I had in mind, but in ways better...waterproof, stepped up from BK7 to BAK-4 prisms and better for birding than astronomy. I had intended the 10x52s for astronomy but happily have also taken up birding as a daytime endeavor. Was using a very good 8x42 for that, yet the 10x42 Shasta Ridges fill the bill (no pun intended) equally well, as an adjunct.
Thank you, Alpen, at least you are honest and replaced a useless product with one listing at nearly three times the others' value.
Pros:
- innovative
- Innovative neckstrap, water, fog proof

These 10 x 42 binoculars are the second pair of binoculars I have bought from this company. The others were Shasta Ridge 8 x 42. Both perform very well and I am extremely pleased with their performance and ease of use. The eye cups are especially useful. One minor complaint; although the object lens covers have retaining straps, it is quite easy for them to become detached and lost. To overcome this I have tied both retaining straps together using fishing line! The chances of both becoming detached seems very unlikely. I'm now going to buy a smaller pair to fit in my pocket. Full marks to Shasta Ridge!!
Cons:
- Easy to lose oject lens covers

I have owned a pair of these optics for ten years. Originally purchased for an economical 2nd set of optics for archery hunting, they became my main set of optics when the performed better than some of the name brands. They have held up to years of abuse until recently. The focus dial became loose and the end cap fell off in the field. I sent them back to the company expecting a free repair. Much to my surprise, the company sent out a brand new replacement free of charge. You don't hear of customer service like that these days! They have gained a customer for life! Thanks Alpen optics..

This is a really good product, the glass is very clear and bright, the weight is really good and it comes with protective covers.. The only negative item is that the binoculars range between the eyes does not spread wide enough for my preference... But I do recommend buying this product!!
Pros: Clear glass, easy to focus, light weight, price good
Cons: Relief between eye too short

First used while turkey hunting. Glassed birds across 800-900 yard field, besides heat wave distortion could easily see tom on edge of field in the shadows. Not a whole lot of diff. between my father-in-laws' Swarovski binos.
Pros: very good clarity, nice contrasting definition, like the adjustable eye cups
Cons: center focus knob doesn't seem rock solid
