Eric Bergfield's Review of American Defense Manufacturing AD-RECON-SL M14 Riflescope Mount

If you're looking at this mount, then you're in the right place with respect to a lot of things. Mainly, that this mount allows you to buy different sized "rings" down the road, if you ever get a scope that has a larger/smaller tube diameter. I'm using a 34mm tube, & by selecting this mount, I've future-proofed myself by allowing the option to save a lot of money in the future by keeping the base & just getting different rings if I ever sell my current scope.

The mount is very lightweight, & I'm really happy with the build quality, as there are no machining marks anywhere on it. It comes packaged with some kind of red Vibratite/Loktite for the screws, but I didn't need it on my 5.56 Springfield Hellion (VHS-2). The mount has a LOT of grip on the rail, both in adjustable torque (the levers) & with respect to surface area gripping the 1913 Pic rail.

I bought the "Standard Lever" mount, but if I were to do it again, I'd go for the "Tactical Lever" mount. ...I overthought my purchase, & wanted to shave off all the weight possible, so I didn't opt for the Tac-Levers, but in retrospect they'd make it noticeably easier to grip & thusly remove the mount. I don't even have my levers overly snug to the rail, so they're pretty easy to flip open & remove the mount; but it's not as fast/easy compared to the larger & easier to access Tac-Levers.

The quick detach feature immediately paid off, because when I went to put my Hellion in my range bag with the optic on it - it turned out to be to big to fit in the bag! ...lol, so I laughed to myself & said, "Nice, this mount already won me over!" So I promptly used the QD-Levers to detach the optic, & threw it in a separate bag & I was off to the range!
Pros:
  • You can buy different ring sizes, & keep the base!
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Can buy additional ring sizes, & keep/use the same mounting base!
  • Quick detach of large optics that would otherwise be bulky to travel with on a firearm.
