Most Helpful Positive Review Game changer for the M&P Shield
Apex trigger is fairly easy to install with basic handgun knowledge and tools. This trigger kit gets rid of the hard factory "wall" in the trigger pull. Instantly noticed an increase in accuracy from this new trigger. Replacing the factory trigger that has two pivot points in the trigger also increa...

Most Helpful Negative Review Too expensive
It's a pain to put this kit in compared to other after market kits for different gun manufacturers. You definitely need a vise for this kit install. The changes/improvements were noticeable but not for a $160. The improvements didn't "knock my socks off" like the $30 spring kit I just put in my Gloc...

Way better than OEM

by JTShunsui, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on September 16, 2025
This trigger is a ROUGH time to get on I’m telling you, I don’t blame the trigger though it’s because M&P shields internals are put in there with the force of Zeus, it’ll take some patience but this trigger kit is worth it. It feels like it cuts the pull in half with almost the same resistance. Really crisp break and reset as well, very happy.

Massive Trigger Improvement

by FalconTerp, Verified Owner from AL, United States Written on September 1, 2025
For a while now, my least favorite gun to shoot has been my .40 M&P Shield v1. My main complaint has been the trigger, which was gritty, inconsistent, and had an unusually long pull. In debating between selling the gun and trying to salvage it, I thought I would try this Apex kit. I am not a gunsmith and typically only field strip my guns for cleaning and mount the occasional optic. So, I was definitely a little nervous undertaking the installation myself. However, after watching multiple videos (the Apex YouTube videos are excellent), I decided to go for it. Installation was fairly uneventful with 2 exceptions. First, the pin on the new trigger which attaches the trigger to the trigger bar was not inserted far enough to help me properly position the trigger, so I had to eyeball it, wedge it in with packaging (as recommended by Apex), and go slowly to ensure I didn't misalign it. The second problem was more a user error in getting the trigger bar properly inserted into the sear block (I managed to somehow block the thumb safety from actuating properly and had to disassemble the gun again to fix it). Overall, though, it was not too difficult with the right tools. My only complaint with the kit itself is that the sight tool included is just a piece of cardboard and did not help as much as I would have liked in keeping the spring under the sight depressed while reinstalling the rear sight. A plastic tool would have been better. While I haven't yet had the opportunity to take the...

Shield Apex Trigger

by Marco Duarte, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on May 8, 2024
Original M&P Shield trigger is ok. But when I installed this APEX Trigger, I was surprised on my grouping and reset. Shield straight out the box 10-yard grouping was 4 to 5 inches. I've always had the problem with shooting to the right. With the APEX Trigger y groupings are 2 inches at 10-yard. Still shooting to the right that's me but it's about half inch now.
Pros:
  • Very well made
  • Not plastic
Cons:
  • Need to be careful on installing and not crushing the trigger.
Best Used for:
  • Better trigger than factory

works perfectly

by RatRacer, Verified Owner from MA, United States Written on January 24, 2024
Easy to install to yourself, others might want to have your local gun shop do it, as there is quite a bit of disassembly. Only a few tools are needed, make sure everything funtions correctly before loading the gun. Apex makes great trigger kits and it works great and improves trigger pull

S&W Shield 9mm 1.0

by average joe, from CA, United States Written on October 2, 2023
Purchased this kit for my Shield 9mm 1.0. It was not an easy install but not very difficult either, just plenty of patience required! I suggest to put several layers of electrical tape over the Apex trigger when driving the retaining pin to prevent scratches. The retaining pin on the new trigger was the hardest part of the install. I followed the Apex instructional video on youtube, just be patient, take your time and the install will be completed in about an hour!
Pros:
  • Smooth trigger pull
Cons:
  • price

Really big improvement over stock Shield 9 trigger

by KraigS, Verified Owner from CA, United States Written on September 5, 2023
I went and shot my Shield 9 after installing the Apex trigger, and for me the difference is pretty significant. My double-tap/follow-up shots and faster and feel so much better. The trigger reset is clean and crisp. I'm very glad I did this upgrade.

Caution & the downside. The Shield 9 disassembly and trigger installation was not easy. If you are going to do this install yourself make sure you have the right punches and use roll pin punches. The sear housing was difficult to get in because the lower corner kept wanting to dig into the polymer frame, but I finally got it in.

This is a great kit, but I feel it's over priced for the parts you get. This could be my ignorance not knowing the labor into machining these parts.

I thought that Talon Tactical Tool was going to be included for installing installing the new spring and striker safety.

All-in-all I am happy with this kit, and the difference it makes in the trigger is very noticeable to me, especially in double-taps and rapid fire.
Pros:
  • Improved trigger pull
  • Shorter reset
  • smooth trigger travel
Cons:
  • price
Best Used for:
  • Better trigger function
  • better trigger pull and accuracy

Very nice trigger upgrade

by Mark, from NC, United States Written on April 19, 2021
Short story, I'm a 1911 guy because I LOVE crisp triggers. This Apex trigger is a great upgrade for and M&P Shield Gen 1 and well worth it.

Details: I upgraded a 9mm Shield Gen 1. The install was a bit on the tricky side, but to be fair this was my first time digging into an M&P. That pin that secures the trigger bar took the longest. Just carefully review the videos from Apex multiple times.

M&P sheild duty carry

by DRV, from CO, United States Written on November 28, 2020
This is a much needed upgrade for a stock gen 1 shield. This kit dropped my trigger pull weight 2 pounds from factory.
Install is straight forward but a little time consuming, at least for me.
The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of the price but I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
Pros:
  • Well constructed
Cons:
  • Price but worth it
Best Used for:
  • carry , defense
