Most Helpful Positive Review Great 5.7 upper.
I configured mine for an AR pistol home defense build. Plenty of capacity and less over penetration than 5.56.
Most Helpful Negative Review No magazine!
This is the second one of these uppers I have ordered. The first one was from Aim Surplus when they first came back in stock in July of 2023. That one shipped with a 50 round mag. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up ordering a second one through Optics Planet. However it did not come with any magaz...

Light PDW for ambi-shooters

by Southern Transplant, from NC, United States Written on October 17, 2025
I purchased this out of curiosity. Ammo prices have come down to $.40/round. Hopefully, they will drop to a more reasonable $.20/round based on their actual cost to manufacture. The upper had a very stiff action at first. I disassembled it, cleaned it up and regressed/lubed it. After repeated cycling, dry firing, and actual range trips, it is operating a lot smoother. Still not as smooth as an AR-15 action though. I paired this with a polymer lower and 3 lbs trigger with no uptake. This makes for a super light and fast shooting gun. Having 50 rounds onboard makes it a great truck gun option that can reach out and touch things at 150m. I've had one malfunction that was probably the ammo. I was firing Fiocchi rounds and it pushed the nose of the round back into the case during loading. I had to pull the magazine to extract the round. Other than that, this thing is a flat shooting beast that can pepper targets in the A zone at distance.
Pros:
  • Light and fast shooting
Cons:
  • No last round bolt hold open; stiff action at first
Best Used for:
  • Truck gun; zombie squirrel suppression

Really fun, low recoil, and very accurate.

I purchased my AR-57 upper quite a while back but I just took it to the range today and thought I might as well review it. First off, the thing is just downright fun. 5.7 is a little more expensive per round but it's a pleasure shoot. I shot mine as it came from the factory and also suppressed, it's already fairly quiet but suppression made it a bit quieter which was nice. BTW, in the manual from the AR57 website it states that the muzzle device requires heating to remove- use a torch for about 30 to 45 seconds while you have the barrel in a vise and then use a stiff piece of metal (screw driver through the holes is fine) and REALLY give it some torque. The factory muzzle device is VERY VERY stuck on there. The barrel has a 1/2x28 thread so you can use standard 5.56 muzzle devices- I chose to use a Phantom QD system and it worked very well. The bore alignment with the QD adapter and suppressor mounted was perfect so I can say that the machine work is more than adequate. Overall I really enjoy this upper, I find it's a great value compared to some of the other options, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it.
Pros:
  • Fun
  • cool
  • unique
  • low recoil
Cons:
  • None

dont show a pic that includes a MAG but then leave it out

by bubba, Verified Owner from TX, United States Written on January 13, 2025
not happy - the product picture clearly shows a magazine - yet none ship with the upper. if you dont include it - the show an EFFN picture without a mag or make it very clear the upper doesnt include it. i checked other stores and they show a mag and include a mag in the offer. this essentially means the price is really $50 higher than advertised.

Only negative is no magazine

by Juan, from TX, United States Written on December 28, 2023
Great product haven't tried it out. Down side doesn't ship with magazine. This company very anti high capacity magazines. Should have been shipped with at least a 10 round magazine. Now have to wait till i order the 50 round magazine. The magazine is the only reason i give it 2 stars
