Eric Spear's Review of Armasight Hellhound Thermal Imaging 336 2-8x25mm Rifle Scope

When I first received this scope I was not impressed with the image as it was highly pixelated and even NUCing the image didn't seem to help. But what I have discovered is that the more I used the scope, the better the image became and the pixilation eventually disappeared so now I have a great image; as good as any of my other 336 and 384 core scopes. I think this scope had probably been stored on the shelf for quite a few years and it took the thermal sensors a while to warm up and work as they should. So now that the imager is working 100% with no pixilation present, it is quite nice. Happy with this purchase as you can't buy these anywhere else anymore as they were discontinued. If you want a great 336 core thermal scope these are a real bargain. Built tough with all metal case. The only downside to this model is that it is a "fixed focus" model meaning you cannot adjust the objective focus like on newer models. Even so, the focus is just fine so no worries there. The Hellhound is really just a Cabelas branded Armasight Predator 336 core scope. I am not even sure what year these were sold at Cabelas but I'm guessing maybe 2016?
Pros:
  • great thermal image
  • multiple palettes
  • user adjustable image enhancement settings
  • can record pictures and video via external DVR
  • Armasight (Flir) quality
Cons:
  • fixed focus
  • 336 by 256 core
  • no onboard recording (picture or video)
Best Used for:
  • hunting
  • Scanning and Spotting at Night
