Powerful addition to your Gen 1 NV

This IR light works very well as an adjunct to my Armasight Orion 4x night vision scope for feral hog and coyote hunting in the Texas hill country. My Orion came equipped with the IR810 light, but after a technical consultation with Steven B at Armasight, I decided to try the IR810W.

I was skeptical - having dropped a lot of cash over the years on supposed upgrades that did not pay off -but this one absolutely did. The boost in output power from 120mW to 600mW gives me far more viewing distance and clarity, even on moonless nights. Quickly attaches to my Orion Weaver rail with the included mount, and the beam width adjustment and the variable output switch are easy to find without fumbling around. (The beam width adjustment is a very handy feature, but a little sticky to turn). The output selector has an OFF switch at each end of the cycle, so no need to flip through them all to turn it OFF (although I almost always use the highest power setting).

I did not think that the beam direction adjustment would be that helpful, but found that having the IR beam directly centered in my reticle is not always beneficial (when I have red crosshairs on a black hog at under 100 yards it can be distracting), so I just reach up and give it a tweak. It stays put until I move it again, even after bonking around in the brush on my sling.
