Legacy Reviewer's Review of Armasight NYX-14 Gen 3 Night Vision Monocular

Tried a very highly marketed competitor first and returned that one then went with this one and OH what a difference. You get a 40 degree field of view instead of just 12 degrees and the thing had two focus rings and a brightness control. The NYx-14 is also smaller than its primary competitor and has its IR unit built right in and not sticking out to the side. It is extremely easy to use for night sky/UFO watching and once you see what is going on up there it will spend much more time doing that then night hunting. Good excuse to get away from the wife & kids too. Once you see those sharp turns and shootouts going on way up there you will be hooked.
As for hunting this unit does not leave a "Lint" like track like others should you look at Venus or Jupiter and it's brightness control allows you to really light up the woods. If you have a rail or Weaver system simply move your existing scope forward and the NYx-14 easily snaps in place behind it. If you try to mount it behind a regular scope you will probably knock out your eye, .22 OK but a deer rifle, forget it. All in all I am well pleased with this unit and highly recommend it. I am also very appreciative of the Optics Planet Service people having to put up with my returns before I found the right night scope for me.
Pros: Very wide field of view and compact
Cons: Need to be able to go on the front of a traditional scope as well, not the rear
