DeltaVictor75 in NC's Review of Armasight NYX-7 Gen 2+ Night Vision Goggles, Standard Definition
I recently upgraded from an Armasight Gen 1 unit, so my civilian experience was limited to that unit. I did have experience with Gen 3 units in the Army and will say that this unit is not far off. I have 9 dogs of varying sizes, live on 60 acres of heavily wooded land with overgrown pastures interspersed and am able to identify my dogs from as far out as 100 yards on moonless nights without the aid of any additional IR ilum; meaning even my smallest dog at 30 lbs, or roughly the size of a coyote or hog in open fields with heavily wooded areas as a backdrop. Mounted on a helmet and using IR illum at close distances(50-60 yds), this unit functions as good as any Gen 3 I've used. I haven't had the opportunity to run these on a night with a full moon, but will assume that it will can only function better, considering the conditions i first tested it in. The display is free of any grainy images and didn't experience any significant "fish-eye" effect either at close distances (50 yes and closer). Keep in mind the only things that separate the NYX-7 from PVS-7s is the size of the unit, (its about 3/4 the size of a PVS-7, which means it's also lighter) and waterproofing, (the NYX-7 is weatherproof, but not waterproof). Unless, you plan on getting really wet, save yourself the $6-700 and get this unit.
The only draw back I have experienced is not with the unit itself, but with Armasight's descriptions of transfer arms so you can properly mount this on a Rhino mount. On the website they have the images/descriptions of the transfer arm and transfer swivel arms confused and there is no proper description. This unit comes with a dovetail adapter for use with the included skull crusher head mount. If you want to use a Rhino/Mich helmet mount you will need the NG IRN7 Adapter for NYX7, in order to replace the dovetail mount it comes with. This transfer arm is available here on Optics Planet. This one fault is not reflective of the NYX-7, however.
My experience with this product has given me enough confidence in the quality of Armasight products, where I would consider buying another Armasight product.
