ivict's Review of Armasight Orion 4x Gen 1+ Night Vision Rifle Scope

This might be a good scope as long as you don’t need a spring or battery cap. I can't say for sure, because I haven't used it that much, but after I got it sighted in it seems to be working fine. The real problem is Armasight's customer service and their unwillingness to help with what should be a minor problem. According to the instructions, the battery has to be removed when not in use and should not be left in for more than a couple of days. That's a little inconvenient, since the battery compartment threads aren't very smooth, and it can't be stored for immediate use. It takes a couple of minutes to prepare, but that's a small price to pay for an inexpensive scope.

The problem I'm having is, the battery compartment cap has a small spring inside that pushes the battery firmly into place. This spring came loose on my unit, and I can't get it back into place, it keeps falling out. This means that, to install the battery I have to hold the spring in place with one hand and screw the cover in with the other. Sometimes it takes a few attempts and it's pretty irritating.

I called Armasight hoping they would let me exchange just the faulty cap (which is not permanently attached, and easily mailed), but they refused. They said they would be glad to give me a new battery cap, but I would have to send the entire bulky, heavy scope back to them, insured, at my expense, and they'd replace the battery cap, then return the scope to me.

Nonsense! They could stick a new cap in an envelope and mail it to me, but that's not company policy.

So, buyer beware! They'll uphold the warranty, but they surely won't go out of their way to make it easy, even when it should be. Dunno about you all, but to me, this is a complete disregard for the customer.
