Tess's Review of Armasight Zeus 640 3-24x75mm Thermal Imaging Rifle Scope

The Armasight Zeus 640 75mm delivers a very nice image at the cost of weight and bulkiness. The Armasight Zeus line is a 'barebones' thermal scope without all the functionality that can be found in similar products from say ATN or Pulsar. I found the button system on top of the scope to be clunky to use and the buttons require pressing relatively hard to get them to work. The Zeus 640 75mm is, however, built like a tank, so if this is your number one concern rather than having a myriad of features, you won't be disappointed. The "HD" lens that come on this Zeus now, and from what I understand, all Zeus scopes manufactured in the last year or so. provides a better picture I am told over what Armasight previously used for the objective lens. I have only looked through this newer lens version so have no firsthand experience in this comparison. Please note the scope no longer looks exactly like any pictures you readily find of the internet. The Zeus now has a different objective lens housing and focus ring and comes with a different lens cap (I didn't care for the style of lens cap it now comes with which 'dangles' when removed). All said, it's a solid scope that performs well and doesn't appear delicate, but don't expect it to internally record video or connect to your phone or have stadiametric range finding. Also, with FLIR buying Armasight, the future of the Armasight Zeus line is more unknown and whatever the support quality has been in the past, it may change with the new owners (for better or worse). I couldn't get FLIR to respond to an email (about 2 weeks at the time of this writing) and one phone call I placed went to a recorder (I didn't leave a message). Lastly, in today's internet world I find it unacceptable to not be able to find out the latest information on a product from the manufacturer's website. You would think if the Zeus line was going to be continued the marketing material would be updated on the Armasight website to reflect the recent improvements in the objective lens, but, for whatever reason, this does not seem to be the case. All the pictures are of the 'old' Zeus objective lens style. Maybe this is an oversight casualty of the buyout by FLIR, maybe it's just laziness in updating the website. Whatever it is, it doesn't go over well with me and gave me pause to fork over thousands of dollars for this scope. Perhaps you aren't bothered by this and if so, I can recommend this scope for its seemingly great quality of build and very nice image it provides.
Pros:
  • Ruggedness
  • image quality
Cons:
  • behind the curve in features
  • FLIR buyout of Armasight
Best Used for:
  • hunting
