Dave's Review of Artisan Cutlery Shark Linerlock Folding Knife

I just received my Artisan 1707P-BCF. It has a S35VN 4"blacked out blade with decent CF scales. The liners are a beautiful blue hue. Being all blacked out except for blue accents, it's discouraging the pocket clip, though deep carry, is bright shiny stainless (perfection would carry a blacked out pocket clip). I found the fasteners holding the CF scales to the liners were sitting proud enough to be felt and they catch on very high thread count material, not so much jeans or burlap sacks. The liners are also proud of the carbon fiber handles all the way around the periphery- hopefully designed in to prevent dinging up the CF handles if dropped on a sharp edge, which most likely would begin delaminating the CF handles. I like that there's a cross bar blade stop for opening control stop. I believe these complement the liner lock for blade security and stableness. The blade arrived wickedly sharp cutting the finest lines through various weight paper stock. The handle is sublime and feels good though the proud fasteners and liners take some getting used to. As compared to my Bestech, the bearings seem a bit rough, you can feel it when dropping the blade closed into the handle. It still opens smoothly but takes a bit more effort to flip the blade open than I find on m my Bestech knife. I still like the blade length and shape, combined with the dark CF handles, this is one of the 3 EDC Blades I carry, replacing the Bestech, because of the black out CF handles on this Artisan Shark vs. the black and white G10 handles of my Bestech. I will probably change the deep carry clip to one that is blacked out because it blends in better with the fabric color of my clothing. All in all, a very nice premium steel knife that though made in China, still comes in with great quality at a fair price point. Thanks Optics Planet for your sales, it made this purchase well worth the dollars. I highly recommend this knife for those looking for a hand filling knife made with premium blade steal and CF scale materials and quality execution.
Pros:
  • Blade
  • Blade alignment, blade and handle materials, quality execution
Cons:
  • Handle fasteners a wee bit proud, enough to notice and ask why?
Best Used for:
  • EDC, daily cutting chores and last ditch personal defense.
