Athlon Talos 12x50 Binoculars

With the closing of my previous Optics sponsor, I recently became sponsored by Athlon Optics out of Olathe, Kansas. With my previous sponsor, I was using binoculars that retailed for nearly $700 so I was extremely skeptical when I saw the dealer price sheet from Athlon. I did not order their highest tiered binoculars by any means, rather I found myself leaning towards the bottom. Looking through the Talos 12x50 binoculars for the first time, all my skepticism was taken away. There were some things that scared me, that we’ll touch upon later, into believing I had known nothing about quality optics before this moment.

Objective Lenses: The objective lenses are large (50mm) and this may be something to think about if you are wanting a smaller and lighter overall package. The objective lenses are bright, clear and will help you gather plenty of light in lowlight conditions.
Focus Wheel: The focus wheel is second to none! I’ve seen many higher-end binoculars with focus wheels that will spin and spin, but the Talos 12x50 features more of a micro-adjust wheel. It took myself a bit of getting used to. With such fine adjustment, it is extremely easy to find small details on the object being viewed.
Neck Strap: The neck strap is large, long and ready for any application. It can be shortened down to be a carrying handle and lengthened all the way up to an over the shoulder carrying strap. The neck strap is large enough to hold the 29oz binoculars comfortably over the shoulder with little sway while walking.
Ocular Lenses: The ocular lenses gave me a bit of trouble early on. I had a pair of binoculars that had a IPD distance down to 45mm before this pair, and got used to using them that way. With the Athlon Talos 12x50, there was far more adjustment to make the viewing experience as comfortable as possible for the user. The IPD distance on the Talos 12x50 is 56-73mm, great for your child’s first pair of binoculars all the way up to the seasoned hunting veteran!
Overall Feel: The overall feel of the Talos 12x50 is bar none! They are not too heavy (29oz), comfortable in the hand, and provide pinpoint optical clarity at a moments notice.
Lens Caps: The lens caps are perfect! The objective lens covers are retained to the binocular itself with retaining rings, and the ocular lens covers fit snug over the lenses. The covers are made of flexible, yet durable, plastic that will last for many years to come. The best part of these lens caps is you will not lose them, they are attached right to the binocular!
