Athlon Talos 12x50 Binoculars
With the closing of my previous Optics sponsor, I recently became sponsored by Athlon Optics out of Olathe, Kansas. With my previous sponsor, I was using binoculars that retailed for nearly $700 so I was extremely skeptical when I saw the dealer price sheet from Athlon. I did not order their highest tiered binoculars by any means, rather I found myself leaning towards the bottom. Looking through the Talos 12x50 binoculars for the first time, all my skepticism was taken away. There were some things that scared me, that we’ll touch upon later, into believing I had known nothing about quality optics before this moment.
Objective Lenses: The objective lenses are large (50mm) and this may be something to think about if you are wanting a smaller and lighter overall package. The objective lenses are bright, clear and will help you gather plenty of light in lowlight conditions.
Focus Wheel: The focus wheel is second to none! I’ve seen many higher-end binoculars with focus wheels that will spin and spin, but the Talos 12x50 features more of a micro-adjust wheel. It took myself a bit of getting used to. With such fine adjustment, it is extremely easy to find small details on the object being viewed.
