Jim Dawson's Review of Athlon Optics Ares ETR UHD 4.5-30x56mm APRS1 Rifle Scope

after many countless hours researching, I finally purchased the Athlon Ares ETR for a 6.5 Creedmoor long range bench rifle build. Looking to get the best bang for my buck, this scope ticked off all the right boxes so I took a chance. I have had limited range use with it but here are my thoughts so far. All machine work looks great. Turrets are positive with a solid click. Reticle is very easy to use and illumination goes very low or very bright with an off position between each setting. Zero stop is easy to use, could not be easier! Tracking is spot on and with no shift on either elevation or windage. Eye box I would say is fair and have no complaints considering this is a 30x scope. Lastly the glass. I cannot compare this to 3-5k scopes as I do not have anything in that price range to compare with. I will say that I have absolutely no complaints and to my eye it is very clear and bright especially considering the price. You will notice some mirage at max power but it is not horrible and this is to be expected with this high of a magnification. So far I have no regrets and feel this was a bargain for what you get. This is from an average Joe perspective but I would not hesitate to purchase this scope again. If you are looking to get into long range shooting without breaking the bank, look no further.
Pros:
  • well built
  • great glass
  • Value for the Money
Cons:
  • none so far
Best Used for:
  • long range shooting
