James T's Review of Athlon Optics Argos BTR 6-24x50mm Side Focus Rifle Scope
Buy once cry once, I've heard this a thousand times when it comes to buying high dollar optics. Here's the problem with that statement, if you bought a Vortex PST Gen 1 a few years ago, you probably spent right around $1000.00 dollars for a great scope. I would put this Athlon Argos BTR right up there with the gen 1 PST and it cost me under $300.00. So tell me, whose crying now? The turrents are a bit mushy until you remove some of the factory heavy grease. The scope tracks as well if not better than my Vortex Diamondback tactical which cost $100.00 more. The glass is more than acceptable and in this price range I'd say downright astonishing. Is it a S&B or Nightforce? No but it more than holds its own with scopes costing 2 to 3 times as much. The Athlon Warrenty is right there with Nikon & Vortex as well. After beating this thing around in the woods on a few pig hunts and numerous trips to the range I am sold on this brand. My only complaint is the short eye relief. I planned on mounting this one my 300WM but with only 3.3" of eye relief, I am a bit worried about it kissing my eyebrow. I decided to mount it on my 6.5CM with a good set of Vortex Precision Ring and am more than happy with the performance. Athlon should sponser me as I have easily sold 10 of these for them by letting anyone and everyone at the range try it out. Going to step up of the Ares BTR for my RPR which I had intended to splurge on the nightforce. With the savings my kid will get his Mossberg MVP LR. In closing Great Job Athlon and keep up the great work. Opticsplanet also deserves credit for the fast processing and shipping.
