I am a huge fan of Athlon Optics, so when I saw they were coming out with a dot in the Shield RMSc footprint, I had to give it a try. I am very pleased with it so far. My two biggest concerns with a cheaper red dot are refresh rate and durability. The Midas EDC has been impressive in both categories.
I do not know the exact refresh rate of this optic, but it seems fast. During use the dot transitions with clear lines and is super crisp. Another benefit to this optic is the clarity of the glass. A lot of optics have a blue tint but I have not noticed that a bit with this dot.
The construction seems durable enough. I have been carrying it around mounted on my Shield Plus for 3 months now and have 500 rounds through it. My main con is that you have to remove the optic to change the battery. This seems to be falling out of fashion for red dots even though I am used to it with my other set ups. For the money, you can't have everything.
The fit and finish is really nice- but a bit plain. Zeroing is a little bit of a pain as you have to use the tiniest allen key to make adjustments and they are not all that tactile. On the other hand, the brightness adjustments are tactile and on the same side which I prefer. It is nice to have those facing in as well for carry so nothing can bump adjust them wi...
