Most Helpful Positive Review Warranty Work
I accidently knocked my Athlon Talos scope over on a concrete bench. The tube got a few scratches from the fall. Due to the fall the scope would not hold "0". I sent it into Athlon for warranty work. Even though I caused the damage they replaced it with a new scope. Warranty does not get any be...

Most Helpful Negative Review I think I got a lemon
The glass is very good and I love the reticle its one of my favorites. Illumination also works very well. Now for the bad. I couldnt get the scope zeroed in and after two boxes of 308 the reticle shifted off off level. I thinking I just got a lemon, will update and change this based on how the next ...

Athlon scopes

by Mgfarmer2021, from MO, United States Written on February 17, 2021
This scope is great! Super clear! Great reticle. Great scope! I put this scope on an ar15 rifle and have used it for coyote hunting. Easily with stands the abuse It takes during coyote hunts. Very good clearing at night and early morning. The wild field of view helps tremendously. I would recommend this scope to a lot of people. This is my second Athlon and will be purchasing more!

Athlon Talos BTR 4-14x44

by Hog hunter, from IN, United States Written on January 28, 2021
A first focal plane scope going on a hunting rifle for under $300 bucks. How can you go wrong? Especially with a lifetime warranty & Athlon is building a reputation for precision tracking... I was done with that said, but this website wants a longer answer. So here we go... This is my second Athlon scope & I’m a repeat customer. I have my eye on the Cronus BTR! It looks to be a Vortex Razor killer. Time will tell.
Pros:
  • Price
  • Price & precision tracking
Cons:
  • glass is good but not amazing
  • Glass could be better
Best Used for:
  • hunting

A very good scope at this price point

by MSK, Verified Owner from WA, United States Written on January 2, 2021
Got this for a PCP airgun. The scope is optically remarkable for the price. Competes quite favorably with a 10X42 Super Sniper and a 3-15x50 Weaver tactical. I must agree with a number of other reviews who noted that the hash marks on both turrets do not align perfectly with the hash marks on the scope body. But, at least in my case, these deviations are really minor. I could not mistake which "click" I am on. The turret "clicks" are quite clear, and the turrets are re-settable to zero at any particular "click" position -unscrew the 3mm allen screw and the turret can be lifted and repositioned. But do mind the o-rings sealing the turret mechanisms. The reticle illumination knob is really uncomfortably stiff to turn on, or off. But the illumiated reticle is great feature to have for all the low-light situations in life. The BTR reticle is busy, but for target shooting it works just fine. FYI: The right size of Butler Creek 'flip-up' covers are the #19 for the ocular and the #31 for the objective. Also, the same sun-shade for the Primary Arms PA4-14x44 series of scopes (item# PA4-14SS) fits perfectly on this scope as well.
Pros:
  • Clear optics at all powers
  • good texture
  • Positive audible turret positioning
  • smooth parallax and zoom adjustments
Cons:
  • stiff illumination knob
Best Used for:
  • Target & Hunting

Wouldn’t zero on a 6.5 grendel

by Samson Sweet, Verified Owner from MO, United States Written on December 28, 2020
I built a 6.5 grendel for hunting and just daily shooting. I was looking for a mid level FFP scope and thought I would give this athlon a try. After two different mounts I finally found one that I was satisfied with. I was happy with the look and eye feel. After a bore sight I went out to my 50 yard range. I was all over the paper with the first 50 rounds. I upgraded to some hornady ammo to see if this would help. While it did tighten my group up I still couldn’t hit inside a softball consistently. I did some reading and thought maybe it was my barrel needing broken in. I went ahead and checked all my torque spec and made sure my scope was tight. After another 50 rounds I still couldn’t get it to group. I was torn is it the gun or the scope. The easiest thing to do was slap a scope on from another gun. I put on a vortex diamondback and was quickly shoot walnut size groups with the hornady ammo. I’m not sure if I can return this product or not.

Athlon Talos BTR 4-14

by Warden, from PA, United States Written on June 24, 2020
Got this scope for use on a PCP air rifle. The parallax on this scope is adjustable down to 10yds which makes it very suitable for air gun use.The 4-14 variable power is suitable for air gun use as well. The glass is sharp and clear and the power ring and the parallax adjustment knob turn easily. The reticle is illuminated which really comes in handy when targets are tucked in back in the shadows where non-illuminated articles disappear. This is a First Focal Plane scope that utilizes a mildot reticle and here's where my only complaint comes in. The reticle is "busy" meaning there are lots of hash Mark's, half Mark's and numbers.....too much stuff! Bottom line is, I'd prefer a little less cluttered reticle but this is still a lot of scope for the money.
Pros:
  • Clear glass, good power range, illuminated reticle, focuses down to 10 yds
Cons:
  • Reticle is too "busy".

Amazing and even better for the money!

by Tony, from FL, United States Written on February 8, 2019
I have high end optics but Athlon has been getting amazing reviews so I wanted to try one of the lower end scopes. I can say this thing is awesome! Then factor in the cost and for the price it is like comparing it to 6-800 scopes. I took out a 3.5-15 SWFA Super sniper on the same day and compared it to this and I like the Athlon better. I think the glass is brighter and the reticle is way more usable. I will be getting another one and also plan on trying their higher end line. Optics PLanet shipped it right away too!

Athlon scope

by Ian G, Verified Owner from DE, United States Written on September 30, 2018
This scope is really good quality. Don't shy away from it if you see that it's illuminated. This has high standard lighting in the reticle. And the glass is clear with clean sight picture. This is just as good as a mid range vortex or Leupold in my view. Considering how much magnification it has and features, the weight is pretty light.
Pros:
  • Reticle Design
  • quailty and Price
  • clairity and zoom ability
Cons:
  • None
Best Used for:
  • Hunters, range shooting

Great Value

by David, from SC, United States Written on July 30, 2018
I just purchased my 3rd one for a new rifle. The first one I had a problem with the reticle clocking. I called Athlon and they replaced it immediately. No issues since with it, or the second one. Clear glass, loads of features. I have always had a very strong prescription for my corrective lenses. On some scopes I struggle with finding the sweet spot for eye relief. Not with these! Hold up the rifle and bam - clear view from side to side and top to bottom. Love this scope.
Pros:
  • Features and price = value
Cons:
  • Needs to come with a decal / sticker
Best Used for:
  • hunting
