Lothaen's Review of Atibal Velocity 1-4x

I received my Velocity last year and have been putting it through its paces. This optic doesnt have much fanfare, partially because it's from a relatively new company. Its a great piece of equipment imported from Japan and the quality is apparent throughout.

One thing you can appreciate with this optic is that it's a quality first piece. The glass, the cleanliness and sharpness of the reticle... the overall fit and finish is outstanding.

The optic is illuminated with seven settings, although it is not daylight bright. This isn't a issue as overall the simple German #4 style works well for shooting up close and precision out far. Its really quite a good balance as the thick bars at 3,6, and 9 offset the need for a daylight bright reticle. The tiny center crosshair is thin and laser sharp at 1x, and the focus is all on the thick bars. Fast up close without the need for a daylight bright reticle.

As you zoom in, the thick bars are pushed out to the side and the crosshairs are more visible to engage in precision shots. Its such a nice balance of reticle design and focal plane... I have developed a renewed appreciation for crosshair reticles, particularly German #4 style or derivities.

In low light, the red illumination works well. As you bring the weapon up and activate a weapon light, the thin center washes out and the black thick crossbars take over, offering excellent contrast against a target shined with a white weapon light at close range. Most optics that feature a thin crosshair or a small horseshoe will give you very little guidance of the battery dies or if you wash them out from a low setting. The Velocity will treat you well in any situation with its consitent performance. Dim light, low light, bright light, up close, out far... the reticle strikes an excellent balance for all practical carbine ranges.

Many shooters will complain about the lack of a bdc, but it's not needed for this optic. Its a simple optic with a high cost to value ratio and it's been a reliable piece of equipment. Its something I would recommend for people looking for a precision made tool at a working man's budget.

If you don't need a bdc, then you will find this a capable piece of equipment for all levels of practical carbine shooting. Thoroughly impressed. Out of my MTAC, Razor, Viper PST, Primary Arms, this is the keeper. I've downsized the rest and sold them.
