Aries 300

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on February 19, 2010
this is a quality device, nothing cheap about it. The optics are clear. The reticle is sharp. The IR works well, lighting up objects about 300 ft away. Clarity would be able see a persons head sticking out from behind a tree at about 250 ft easily. This is much better than earlier 1st gen hand held stuff. The unit is durable and would likely stand up to some moderate abuse. all the moving parts are snug and do not rattle or improperly move from their places. This is well worth the money and highly recommend it. this device is also a lower mounting unit making is closer to the comb of the buttstock. If you want a good rather basic but still optioned NV, this is the one to get. Even the case it comes in is quality. The whole package just seems like it should cost quite a bit more for what you are getting. you wont be let down on this one.
Pros: value
Cons: none really

Great Product Great Price

This is the first NV device I've ever purchased. I've only had this product for about a week. It performs very well even w/o the IR illuminator. I tested it in my room on a cloudy night and I was able to see everything in my room fairly well except for the interior of my closet. I liked the red on green illuminated crosshairs, weaver rail mount, detachable IR illuminator, and overall ease of use. The major drawback for me was its weight and size(about 9"x3"x3"), but these are just a byproduct of the heavyduty construction. Also the lip of the eyepiece on my scope was not completely attached but this did not affect performance.
Pros: it works
Cons: larger than it looks, heavy

Worth the money

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from MO, United States Written on December 22, 2009
Good close range night vision when using the IR. I would say best under 75 yards/meters. Magnification is low. Probably a 4X would be better with a longer distance IR. But for only $300, it's a bargain.
Pros: Adequate for the money adequate at close range
Cons: IR doesn't get beyond about 75 yards. magnification is low.
