Recon37's Review of ATN BinoX 4-16x50mm Smart Day/Night Digital Binoculars

I rarely write reviews however the quality of these bino's is so bad that I feel I must warn others before they also waste over $400 on them. The concept of a digital binocular with 4-16x zoom, photo, video, and night vision capability is truly great, however ATN completely failed. I will start by discussing image quality; on 4x zoom the image quality is ok however as you increase the zoom the image quality becomes so grainy you can barley tell what your looking at. The image quality of the photos and video is also extremely poor; NOT 1080p or even close. Additionally the photos that ATN uses to market these bino's are a total misrepresentation of the actual quality of the images that it produces. Now on to image stabilization. Once again their concept is great; image stabilization in a bino awesome! But once again a total fail. The image stabilization seems to over correct which results in a very shaky image. This was the case even when I used them with a tripod in no to extremely low wind conditions. The night vision function is functional but sub par but for $400 I guess one can't complain there. GPS function is ok at best, my smart phone is, surprisingly, better. Wi-fi functionality is border line ok. Battery life is horrible!!! Don't leave the house without an extra set. ATN claims it will take rechargeable batteries however mine clearly doesn't like to run on them. They are also not at all waterproof, which ATN doesn't tell you anywhere in any of the literature; I had to call them to find out. Honestly I could go on and on about the cons. What it all boils down to is these digital bino's are a great concept however they need a lot more testing and some serious technological refinement. So if you want to take great photo and video from a distance go get a good DSLR and a good telephoto lens you will be much happier than you will with these bino's. If I could return them I would!! Additionally I'm not bashing ATN I own another ATN product, a night vision monocular, which is awesome! It's a great product I just feel they totally dropped the ball here and totally misrepresented the quality of their product.
P.s. these bino's are also made in china :(
