Most Helpful Positive Review Retired Trooper who recently purchased the 3x
I am a recently retired WV State Trooper and I have used Night Vision in the past for surveilance. (Search warrants etc.) The devices I have used in the past were very expensive. I expected the Night Trek 3x to be of poor quality due to the price. Was I ever wrong! The unit is compact, light weight...

Most Helpful Negative Review Not as good as I expected
It wasn't what I expected. The NV aspect of it did work however it felt like I was trying to look through a straw the entire time. When you turn on the IR illuminator the FOV narrowed even more to the point that it was useless for my needs.

Works for the Russians

by baslayr, from WA, United States Written on July 18, 2015
For the price this Gen 1 night vision is the best deal out there. With the price on this site you might as well by two, one for each eye. Just remember this is Gen 1 so if you've had the pleasure to use what is available in our military it won't live up to Gen 3. If you can afford Gen 3 then by it.If not than get this one.

non working item

by Bubba, from TX, United States Written on April 3, 2015
I received item and it didn't work. Called ATN manufacturer and mailed to them to have repaired or replacement. Was not happy since it didn't work. If it had worked, I would have given better rating for item and store.

got the 5x model and its pretty good with a little starlight or moon, but turn on the IR and wow. Very pleased for the price.Don't know what battery life will be but so far so good. Also the quality of the case is outstanding with carry strap and pocket for extra batteries and shipping was earlier than estimated.

Great for the price!

by tohrmented, from NV, United States Written on December 29, 2014
I read the review by the retired Highway Patrol officer and he nailed it. For the money this a great product. It actually works, and since we are simply watching wildlife in our area they are fantastic. While you will need a $5k set to see the shadows of a bush at 100 yards, you will absolutely be able to see far and get what you need from this set.

It's a Gen 1 but great

by shark creek, Verified Owner from ID, United States Written on July 18, 2014
Purchased for a great price and Opticsplanet shipped it quick. It's a Gen 1 but works great for camping and/or to see what's prowling around the house at night. I'm not sure of the battery life yet, I've only used it a couple of time for a few minutes each. The IR works well when there's not enough ambient light available.
Pros:
  • Price
  • Ease of use
Cons:
  • None

Not a bad monocular

by Legacy Reviewer, from CO, United States Written on May 10, 2014
The monocular was shipped quickly from optics planet. It feels well made and has a sort of rubberized feel to it. The gen 1+ tube provides great resolution and clarity compared to other gen 1 monocular I have owned. As far as light amplification goes the unit is not as powerful as the surplus Russian gen 1 tubes. That being said with the IR illumination turned on the unit preforms adequately. Not mentioned in the description or visible in the pictures is that the monocular has a 1/4-20 female tripod mount on the bottom which could most likely also be used for mounting an external IR source. For the price you cant go wrong.
Pros: Better resolution than Gen 1 tubes, 1/4-20 tripod mount.
Cons: Slightly less light amplificarion than other Gen 1 tubes
