Rudedog's Review of ATN PS22 Gen 2+ Day/Night Vision Rifle Scope Converter

I noticed a point of impact shift after my brother and I both missed head shots on some pigs. We are both avid hunters and take a lot of animals every year. We shot strictly testing it and noticed the dreaded Point of Impact shift this unit (and other front mounted systems) are cursed with. It cost me about $60 to send it in and they had it shipped back within 2 weeks. I have shot hundreds if not a thousand rounds using it with lots of calibers, including a crossbow. The shift was consistently about 3-4 inches at 60 yards, it shot high right. I could have just adjusted my scopes but that defeats the purpose, right? I got it back and shot only 20 or so test shots with a .22 and it was about 1/2-1" high. I can live with that. Only time will tell if it's a one time "fix". I expressed my concern in my letter with my RMA and was insured it was fixed right and once and for all, we'll see. To be honest, the .22 might be sighted in a little high on purpose. I don't recall. All I know is that there is a vast improvement. I have since seen the competitor for this on optics planet. I haven't tried it and don't know much about it. It does have some cool features like low battery indicator and wireless remote on/off, which this unit lacks but unless that has an actual switch too, I'd be worried to lose the remote. However; the atn ps-22 is well built and every one of my buddies that looks at it comments on the image clarity and apparent quality of construction. One beef I have with the PS-22 is that at different ranges you have to re-focus if your scanning an area (if you want it to be it's clearest). Also, I originally thought I could scan with the unit in my hand(not mounted). It's not practical as the image is fish-bowl-ish. I guess because your scope can focus on it and magnify it??? I don't really know. None of the cons outweigh the versatility and utilitarian uses for this unit for me. I did make a video showing gen1, gen2, and gen 3 night vision devices. My advice in this price range it's great. Gen 3 is cool but cost too much and although more clear even without the IR. it's just not worth it to me. This unit produces pigs around 150 yrds and possibly more in a low grass or road scenario and offers a fairly sharp image. If gen 1 is VHS tape, then gen 2 is standard cable, then gen 3 is HDTV. With the Gen 2 MOST of the time I have the need for the IR it comes with. Not so with gen 3. The video I made is about 20 mins long and that's why I've had trouble posting it on youtube it's title is "ATN PS22 review" if I can ever get it split up and uploaded, so keep an eye out. It does show me shooting it with the POI issue. But I was thrown off because my buddy shoots a perfect shot dead center after I shot a group high right. Turns out after more testing it was him, not me! Good luck and good Hunting. Hope I've helped. I will only have buyers remorse with this product if the problem returns especially if the warranty runs out. Otherwise, still a happy customer.
Pros: quality night vision(sight picture) Not even one spot or blem visible when looking though it, , mounts on multiple weapons platforms, works as advertised.
Cons: suffered point of impact shift, no low battery indicator, no brightness adjustment (sometimes my eyes get tired because it's soo bright, even with IR turned down),
