M.A.T.'s Review of ATN ThOR 4 1.5-15x25mm Thermal Smart HD Rifle Scope

Review for Thor 4 640 1.5-15x. I bought the scope to use as a night hunter on a AR in 6.5 Grendel, for pigs and maybe varmints some day. I purchased direct from ATN. They were very helpful narrowing down which scope was right for me. They actually recommended a cheaper one, I wanted one with the higher resolution sensor so spent a little more than they recommended. What I liked over other scopes in the same price range was the integration with the ABL on this scope to auto adjust the reticle based on laser range (and winds if I input them). Also the larger internal battery with a long life, and if I need more I can bring a battery pack and charge in the field. I did read ahead on the users manual, setup was rather easy. The menus are a bit, but that goes with the capability. I do not have any issues navigating, but don't expect to be three menus deep and be able to get out quickly for a shot. There should be no need to be in one of the deep submenus during normal shooting, only setup. Reticle, picture, and ABL setup was done at the house. There was an upper ring missing on the L-shaped ring; called customer service they shipped a replacement; easy to deal with. The picture is great, as you zoom as expected it gets pixelated; as expected. I am sure it is comparable to other scopes with the same sensor resolution. I did choose auto NUC on setup, and will probably keep it that way. I've brought it to the range three times now, holds zero. Sight in was super easy, sure takes the guess work out. It is difficult to see standard targets at the range where I shoot with a thermal scope, but they were good enough to zero and test. I did calibrate the recoil activated recording and it seems to be functioning; wasn't prior to calibration. I entered ballistic info from the chrono after the zero. Then shot steel 100,200, 300 yards using the ABL to laser range find and adjust the reticle; point of aim point of impact. I have been back and shot at paper at in between distances, and the auto adjustment of the reticle is spot on every time.
Pros:
  • laser
  • Picture and video recording
  • Price and install ease
Cons:
  • None
