HD9732's Review of ATN X-Sight 4K Pro Edition 5-20x70mm Smart HD 30mm Tube Day/Night Rifle Scope

Not sure I would agree with all the low ratings - but - with ANY new product there are bugs. This is a technology product as much as a hunting product. It hold zero and it does exactly what ATN says it does. I guess I am a Bleading edge consumer and as such understand the issues others have raised. Aside from the technology aspects, the scope works just fine. Although I have not tested in the hunting field, so I can't really criticize the low ratings until it is put to the FULL test.

Overall Review:
The ATN X-sight 4K - Is a home run. It is a step above. ATN has take the Day/Night hun ting to the next level. The clarity, accuracy, functionality of this sight system is awesome. The one shot zeroing is a tad touchy if you haven't used a bench rest. But as long as you hold zero while pinpointing your shot the zero works really well... The internal ranging is a little difficult, but marry this along side the ATN LRF (which transmits the range info to the sight) and the reticle is adjusted automatically. I have not yet tested the return to zero for moving this from my multiple platforms, but have taken it off and put it back on and it hold zero perfectly. The grainy sight picture with the older gen sight is gone. The UHD eliminates that, however I have not tested this with the extended zoom, just the standard zoom all the way from 5 - 20... The multiple profiles is again another feature I have yet to test as I only put 168g 308 down range but the ballistics and the zeroing adjusted works great for this profile and using the manual distance (other than what zero'd at 25meters), or the ATN LRF, although the ballistic info must be entered correctly or you get unexpected results. Like a HIGH shot due to wrong velocity settings (like what I first did). If the user correctly sets up the scope the zeroing will be spot on! I have not had the time to move the sight to multiple platforms but the FNAR 308 put this thru it's paces and it did not fail.
I will shortly be on my way out for my first hog harvesting with this setup. I cannot wait!

Cons:
-Initial setup is a tad cumbersome.
-Setting up the ballistics information is a pain when using the X-sight as the monitor, turn on wifi and save your eyes, and frustration.
Recommend setting up the WIFI ( and downloading the Obsinian 4 app to your tablet (or phone) and setup the rest of the information there.
-The Micro SD card slot is a bit touchy. Care to not eject the SD card when putting rubber cov er back on. You will not realize the card had been ejected until it is too late. Not a show stopper - just a word of warning.
-Recharging... Does what it says but the power button is also a little touchy and if you bump it - it turns on. If you dont realize it - you may have a dead scope when you go to use it.
Remedy - use sleep mode! this will at least put it back to sleep and save battery when not in use. But a longer power press to initially turn it on should be fixed in a firmware update :)

Pros:
-Zeroing: If not one touch (using a bench rest) certainly only take two.
-Ranging: BIG plus when the balistics are saved, and the reticle is auto adjusted is HUGE! Especially when on a hunt. I have not taken it out on a hunt as yet - but have the ATN LRF and the reticle auto adjusts correctly.
-Wifi: Especially for setup, The tablet can be used to setup the profiles. And this is the only way (that I could see) to rename the profiles.
-Standard rings - OMG! This is finally the way to go! I have 6 rifles all with an assorted mounting base types, weaver, picatiny, BAR, Ruger, etc... 30mm for this weapon systema is absolutely GREAT!
-Dual Video - POC Video will actively shooting is a wonderful thing. The recorded video is as clear as it gets in a package of this type.
-RAV - very cool. However I would bet it is nicer on a hunt than at the range. Range RAV is boring, but hunt RAV is instructional, one of the major reasons I got this. I want to know why I missed. If I hit my target, so be it, I know what I did. But missing, I now know what I did wrong. :)
-Reticle choices a big plus. Change to suit the shooter. Colors on the other hand ??? Big deal. Found that yellow for night and red for day work best (for me).
- 18 (EIGHTEEN) hour battery!!!!!!!! NUMBRO UNO Pro! Nothing worse then having your scope only last 1/2 way thru the hunt. Especially since this is digital day and night!
Yes it really lasts up to 18 hours! Given you do some of the maintenance like RAV and sleep. . . This is a true all day hunting scope. Given you may be in an area for the weekend, save your scope - turn it off while not hunting. Or, recharge it (from your truck/car) after the hunt.

Wish List:
-Scope caps! This more than any other feature. I protect my optics! Flip up caps are essential.
- higher quality scope rings. Also publish the torque settings for the rings. QD rings are a must.
Pros:
  • Picture quality
  • Standard Rings!
  • Bluetooth to LRF
  • Battery Life!
Cons:
  • No scope caps
  • SD Card slot delicate
  • Scope rings w/Pro are lower quality
Best Used for:
  • Night Vision Hunting.
