Brent Hester's Review of ATN X-Sight 4K Pro Edition 5-20x70mm Smart HD 30mm Tube Day/Night Rifle Scope
As a disclaimer, I received a non-functional scope that would not display any image. I have been working with Jacob from the ATN support staff and they were helpful in troubleshooting the issue and have worked with me to start the RMA process. My scope is currently en-route to their facility for repair. After concluding the RMA process and having the scope returned I will revisit this review with how the scope functions. The scope was adequately packaged from Optics Planet and didn't appear to have been mistreated too poorly by the postal service, so at this time I am chalking this up to bad luck on my part.
Things I can say about the scope before sending it back:
It appears to be solidly made. No rattling or loose fittings. The accessories included appeared to be of high quality. There were no rough/un-finished pieces and it appears to be made with quality and/or care. It was easy to connect a USB charger into the port and seemed to hold it solidly. The buttons and pieces that were made of rubber also appear to be of good quality. The covers have a good hold on their ports, but are easy enough to remove and don't feel delicate.
The only situational mention I will state is that I bought this with the intention of going on a Remington R-15. The specifications state that it will fit with normal profile scope rings and I can confirm it fits with standard height 30mm rings, but only just. I think it would fit fine with average height rings on a hunting rifle, but with an AR pattern rifle, you may want to use a taller set of rings. I know it was so low on mine that I wouldn't be able to use the included eye piece without using taller rings (vortex standard height 30mm rings were the ones I used). More testing would be needed here, but when the scope is returned i will do some testing and report back. The instructions specify to have it as low as possible to the bore so I want to try it as it is before trying it with taller rings.
In my troubleshooting process I ran across a ton of information from the ATN folx regarding the scope. ATN has published a lot of material on using these scopes and working with them. From YouTube videos, to manuals on their website, and more forum posts than you can shake a stick at. This was nice to see even though it didn't help my particular situation. The remote support has also been very kind and considerate of my situation. I will state that I would recommend calling them for the initial contact regarding any issues instead of going through the email portion of their website. That being said, from time of issue reported to RMA process started was only 24 or so hours including troubleshooting. Ive seen where the support gets a bad rap online, but my experience so far has been pleasant.
I have put my review at a 3-stars at this time due to the scope not working, but the build quality seems good, and the support staff is definitely what has kept me hopeful. I remember feeling devastated when I hit the power button and nothing happened, but Jacob and the rest of the support staff has helped me feel a lot better about hopefully getting to use this. Albeit a little later than I originally planned, but they say good things come to those who wait.
Hopefully in a couple of weeks I will be updating this to a 5/5 star review and information about it's intended use. (Beaver control at a remote property)
