Complete the Plum Trio — Solid MLOK Upgrade for the AK103

I purchased the B5 Systems AK Handguard (Plum, Code: 24X-4AK-AKHANDGUARDSTANDARD-AHS-1514) on 05/26/2026 to finish out my full B5 plum furniture conversion on my MDC AK103.

I recently swapped my standard furniture for the B5 Systems AK Handguard on my stamped AKM, and the difference is night and day. The profile is noticeably slimmer than the original wood, making the rifle much easier to drive.

Pros:
Ergonomics: The aggressive texturing on the lower guard is excellent. It stays grippy even with sweaty hands or gloves.

Modularity: Having M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions lets me mount a light and handstop without the bulk of a full quad rail.

Heat Management: The integral stainless steel heat shield does a great job. I ran several mags back-to-back, and while it got warm, it never became uncomfortable to hold.

Overall, it’s a lightweight, professional-grade forend that doesn't break the bank. Highly recommend it if you want to modernize your AK without losing the classic silhouette.

So I have read a lot of different things about wasr 10 being difficult but personally the install for this hand guard was perfect. All AKs are different but all I had to do was run my file over one of the ends of the gas tube over once to shorten it and went right in tightly and doesn't move.

Quality is Top Notch. As with most AK parts, some hand fitting is needed. Unfortunately the original package shipped without the upper portion of the handguard. Optics Planet and B5 Systems were Super responsive and shipped the upper handguard quickly. Looks and feels great. Large improvement from original.
