merbeau's Review of Bald Eagle Slingshot Rest

This rest fits in between the entry level rest like Caldwell and the professional rest made by Sinclair, Farley, etc. I purchased the cast iron version from Grizzly who still carries them. Not sure if they have continued the manufacturing or just are selling unsold inventory. Unit comes assembled with exception of windage cradle. Assembly tools are provided. A couple of observations. When attaching the windage cradle to the base make sure to align the key way with the fine elevation adjustment or it will not work (easy to align with coarse elevation if not careful. Secondly, after tightening the knurled nut with provided spanner check to see if the unit moves. If it does, the bevel head nut on the top of the unit needs to be tightened. My unit moved and if that happens loosen the knurled nut, tighten the bevel nut on top and then retighten the knurled nut. The windage elevation control while nice to be at your fingertips is a little coarse but does get the job done. If you want to shoot a hunting rifle the smallest rest Bald Eagle sells (the curved model) is to big and the rifle will not be held tightly. I ended up purchasing a Protektor 1C small leather bag which will hold most hunting rifles. Unfortunately the tabs are to big so the holes will not align with the holes on the unit. You will have to punch holes into the tabs to secure it to the rest. The cast iron unit weighs 21 lbs and is heavy enough to stabilize for bench rest shooting.
