For the sale price a good deal

Written on Nov 17, 2014

This rest fits in between the entry level rest like Caldwell and the professional rest made by Sinclair, Farley, etc. I purchased the cast iron version from Grizzly who still carries them. Not sure if they have continued the manufacturing or just are selling unsold inventory. Unit comes assembled with exception of windage cradle. Assembly tools are provided. A couple of observations. When attaching the windage cradle to the base make sure to align the key way with the fine elevation adjustment or it will not work (easy to align with coarse elevation if not careful. Secondly, after tightening the knurled nut with provided spanner check to see if the unit moves. If it does, the bevel head nut on the top of the unit needs to be tightened. My unit moved and if that happens loosen the knurled nut, tighten the bevel nut on top and then retighten the knurled nut. The windage elevation control while nice to be at your fingertips is a little coarse but does get the job done. If you want to shoot a hunting rifle the smallest rest Bald Eagle sells (the curved model) is to big and the rifle will not be held tightly. I ended up purchasing a Protektor 1C small leather bag which will hold most hunting rifles. Unfortunately the tabs are to big so the holes will not align with the holes on the unit. You will have to punch holes into the tabs to secure it to the rest. The cast iron unit weighs 21 lbs and is heavy enough to stabilize for bench rest shooting.

Not very good experience

Written on Oct 30, 2014

Mounted this scope on a TOZ/Winchester Wildcat 22 lr rifle. Went to the range and was not able to obtain enough adjustment for sighting in at 50 yards. Called Mueller about the issue and they indicated sometimes 22 rifles have an issue. So I went back home and placed a 3-9x 30 mm older Simmons that was not in use on the rifle and went to the range and had no problem. Then took my Nikon 6.5x20x44 Monarch scope off of my 243 and tried it with no problem. Called Mueller back and told them what I had done. Was told to send the scope to Mueller and it was returned saying there were no problems with the scope. Mounted it again and still had the same problem. Fortunately this not a several hundred dollar scope. I then purchased a Nikon Prostaff 3-9 and have had no problems. Last Mueller for me.

Worked on an older Monarch

Written on Oct 29, 2014

I purchased an older Nikon A0 Monarch 6.5x20x44 mm scope in 1999 and at that point in time ordered extra turrets but not the sunshade. This shade fit my scope and really does help with glare. It is mounted on a Browning Safari in 243 caliber with 22 inch barrel. Between the scope and sunshade the barrel looks even shorter.
