This knife came very sharp from the factory. This is my fourth 3v knife in my collection and for good reason...they hold on edge very well. The Canadian Special is what I would consider an excellant companion knife as it does very well at feather sticking and carving but not chopping. Although it does ok at battoning small limbs, I would prefer a longer thicker blade for that task and for loping off small limbs (like my Bravo Squad Leader with a 1/4 inch spine).
I consider this an excellent knife for what it was designed: Skinning, food prep, and bushcraft.
