Expert Review
Excellent EDC
This is a great all around knife.
The deployment is crisp and fast due to the assisted opening mechanism but if you want to open it a bit more discretely you can rather easily.
Solid AXIS lock with an additional slide lock on the backbone which will either prevent accidental deployment or will prevent unwanted closing. I have never had an issue with either opening or closing without me intending to do so, thus I never really use the secondary lock but it is nice to have nonetheless.
I find this knife to be very comfortable in hand, whether a standard or reverse grip.
The blade is a healthy size without being too bulky or intimidating. I tend to favor the serrated blades because they are useful for wire stripping and several other tasks.
Overall the knife has a solid weight, not too heavy, so it isn't a burden to carry. The pocket clip wasn't abhorrently stiff out of the box so I didn't fray pants pockets breaking it in.
If you can only carry one knife to do a variety of tasks, this is definitely one to consider.
Quality steel, rugged design, durable materials, can be opened and closed with one hand, and has a lanyard hole.
Another quality Benchmade knife that delivers the features you need and none that you don't.

benchmade barrage
overall this is a very nice knife. I have carried it on me for about a year and a half daily and it has little to no wear the black blade has no scuff marks with heavy use. assisted opening is a great feature and this knife locks up nice and tight with no play. There is also a safety for those of you who like that feature. it has never opened inside of my pocket and i never have the safety engaged. To anyone looking for a nice heavy duty knife that will last make no mistake looking this over and just get yourself one. Great and fast service from Opticsplanet as always!.
Pros: heavy duty, sharp...

Sweet Assisted Opening Benchmade Barrage
The Benchmade Barrage was the first assisted opening folding knife that I've purchased. Having some arthritis in my wrist made opening regular folders something of an effort. I was looking for an assisted opening knife to try. I own a number of Benchmade knives with the AXIS Lock mechanism and have been very happy with them. I am very pleased with the Barrage. It opens easily and quickly even with an arthritic wrist, it's relatively light weight and very well made. The safety is positive and a nice feature, once you remember that it is there! I purchased the black tanto version and have been experimenting with that blade style. I would recommend the Benchmade Barrage without reservation.
Pros:
- Sturdy
- Fast deployment
- AXIS Lock very rigid
- Finger grooves fit well in the hand
Cons:
- shipping a bit slow
Would recommend: Yes
Benchmade 580 Barrage
I’ve gad a Benchmade ( Barrage ) seems like forever. I can’t remember when I got this blade. I love the way such a large knife slips in my pocket and I can even feel it’s in my pocket due to the slim perfect design. This knife does not need any “babying “ at all. I got a great wet stone that puts a shaving edge on it and the steel holds a 1 molecule edge without rolling over. This thing is basically indestructible,,, believe me,,, I’ve put it through the mill. Probably the best knife I’ve ever had by far !!! Shout out to an excellent customer service lady Ana. I needed a few handle screws due to the abuse I put this knife through and she fixed me up in style.
Pros:
- A perfect folding blade
Cons:
- No Cons
Best Used for:
- Anything and everything !

Great Knife!
About 15-20 years ago, I heard on the television news about a 60-year-old man who was walking on a secondary road on Vancouver Island (British Columbia, Canada) when he was attacked by a cougar. He protected his throat as much as possible. Luckily, he was carrying a pocket knife and was able to stab and kill the cougar. But, in doing so, he had to drop the arm that was protecting his throat because he had to use two hands to open his pocket knife. After the incident, he said, "I'm getting a knife you can open with one hand!" Well, this Benchmade Barrage knife can be flicked open with one hand. It is beautifully made, very sharp, and it stabs into cardboard quite nicely (think cougar). I own many knives and Benchmade products are right at the top of the list. Plus, you get a lifetime warranty.
Pros:
- Very sharp and well made
Cons:
- None
Best Used for:
- tasks for knives

Great Knife - Benchmade Barrage Knife by Osborne Design w/ 3.6" Blade
Benchmade Barrage Knife by Osborne Design w/ 3.6" Blade is a well made assisted opening knife. Sharp out of the box. Great handle shape, positive lock prevents accidental opening. Strong spring for the assisted opening. Handy size, serrated blade. Not too big or too small. Much stronger then the SOG it replaced.
