These Black Aces Tactical 00 Buckshot have the power to cut your target in half. I brought several brands of 00 buck to the range and these had the hardest recoil of them all. Yes I plan to use them for self defense. . .but not inside the home defense as these will shred your sheet rock and keep sailing. They pattern consistently and at 10 yards the 9 pellets will span 9 inches, at 20 yards the span 18 inches, while at 30 yards you may only get 2 or 3 pellets to hit a torso sized target - but remember even if those 30 caliber balls hit an extremity it's going to cause damage, perhaps enough to stop the attack or at least slow the perp down so the next round is a direct hit.
