I have 2 of these on Mossberg 500's. It helps take the bite out of full loads.
Put one on my son's SG when he was about 13 and he went through a full box of 25 shells first time he shot a 12ga. He wasn't a very big kid either.
Perhaps some of the issues on earlier reviews is making sure the recoil mechanism is centered properly and the screws holding it in are snugged down properly. The screws look like sheetrock screws and have a steep pitch.
I also lube the mechanism and spring with some lithium grease and that seemed to smooth out the mechanism.
Only oddity is the feeling of the stock rubbing against your face during recoil. Not a problem, but something to get used to.
My son has had this on his SG for about 15 yrs now. Added one to mine about 12 yrs ago.

This stock lives up to it's claims...Compared with a standard stock, it actually reduces the felt-recoil. Install was easy and the shims that change the stock angle (in this case, the "drop") made this a custom fit.

I don't understand all the negative reviews... I've had this stock on my Mossberg 500 for years and I'm about to get one for my new 590 A1. With this stock I can shoot trap from sunrise till sunset with ABSOLUTELY no pain whatsoever. I'll be watching people come (get a sore shoulder) and go all day long.I think the longest I've seen people stay is an hour or so. Getting hit in the cheek? Check your form, it's never happened to me.

Bought this for my 870 express. Installation was easy. Feels natural. Looks really nice. Shooting is another issue. No matter how careful I was when shooting hi base rounds it would hit my cheek. Very painful. Recoil really wasn't better than stock. Here's the bad part. After a year and not that many rounds it broke. It's a bump stock now. Problem is it's a pump action.I cannot recommend it.
Best Used for:
- Bump stock after it breaks

I've only used this stock once so far, and it worked well in reducing recoil. It also looks nicer than the original stock with its Hogue grip.
I have a SureFire foreend so that I didn't put on the included fore-end, but it also looks like it would work well, though I also read it's a little shorter than the stock one. I would research whether it is though, and I also remember reviewers still liked it, and I can't argue because it's also Hogue.
Pros: Regular-Style Stock, Heard Good for Pump (Rem 870), Easy to Install, Nicer Than Original Stock
Cons: Reportedly Less Recoil Reducation, But It's Likely More Natural, e.g. Doesn't Swing Side to Side

I replaced the factory wood stock Remington 870 with this stock to see if it could reduce the recoil of a 12 gauge buckshot for a home defense shotgun. There is not much difference to me using target birdshot loads with this aftermarket stock versus the the regular stock. However, it definitely improves the felt recoil with magnum loads and full power buckshot. The downside is that the hard thin plastic is very uncomfortable to my face. I had to use a stockcover with some padding over the stock to keep it from painfully slapping my cheek. I would recommend trying the stock if you can before purchasing.
Pros: Definately reduces felt recoil
Cons: Hard plastic stock is not confortable to the face

Took my 870 shogun switched out barrel to a 20" added the Black Hawk Knox stock and grip and now have a perfect and intimidating home defense weapon. If I want to hunt I just switch back to my long barrel and don't have to deal with the recoil on those frozen mornings. Go get one.
Pros: Very easy install fits great looks mean.
Cons: Tiny gap bettween stock and gun but no big deal.

I purchased another one a few years back for my Mossberg 500 and loved it. It does cut down the recoil by a fair amount. This time, it took some drilling to open up the mounting hole for the long bolt. Also, one of the two screws that hold the spring assembly was partially stripped.
