Ernie Urban's Review of BlackHawk Nylon Special Operations Holster

I have worn this holster a few times while in the field and on the range. The Holster itself is a very nice holster. I do have a few personal issues that I don't care for. For me (And This Is My Opinion) I don't like the fact that there are these mag pouches on the opposite side of my free hand. I would like to see them offer a spare mag pouch for the side opposite the holster. I prefer not to take my sidearm out of my shooting hand to reach for another mag. The pouch on the front of the holster I use for my Tactical Light.

Do not let my opinion turn you away from this holster. The quality is above and beyond all the ones I looked at. I did however removed the velcro thumb break and prefer to use the flap cover and plastic buckle. The thumb break was not functional for me. Once the muscle memory is there it is second nature. It is very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. I would like to see them add a second thigh strap to this rig. I would highly recommend this holster if you are looking for a good field rig. The flap covers about 98% if your sidearm. I carry a full size 1911 in mine. It will not handle a Tactical Light, but I don't use one for personal reasons.
Pros:
  • well made
  • Very functional
  • Quility
Cons:
  • Cross reach Mag pouches
  • needs 2nd thigh strap
Best Used for:
  • Tactical training/operations
  • field work
  • Range/Tactical/Hunting
Would Recommend: Yes
