Most Helpful Positive Review Old Flap Holster for the Modern Era
Many people in the tactical community see the flap holster as an antiquated peice of gear opting more for the SERPA style holsters of today. When I am carrying a pistol as a secondary weapon to a rifle, I prefer a holster with a flap to cover and protect my pistol. This product gives the shooter the best of both worlds. It can be carried with the flap down or up depending on the needs of the shooter. It has a thumb break to secure the weapon when the flap is up. It also is not gun specific allowing the shooter to carry anything from a 1911 to a high cap polimer semi-auto. Overall, I would s...

I have been looking for something like this for a hunting holster, mainly to keep weed an seed an debris out of my gun, fits the bill perfectly, as it holds a g20 very well, an I'm sure it will hold other large frame pistols to.
Pros:
  • Everything above
Cons:
  • None

Come on, Guys!

by Michael J Perrine, from SC, United States Written on December 10, 2019
I've had an OD version of this holster for years. They are great, but what ae you selling? Is it left handed, right handed-can't you list backorder left and right, all the various shades/colors? Believe it or not, but there are some handgun shooters like me who have trained enough for years to be ambidextrous and sometimes like good holsters on both sides, and that can mean you need flaps if you are going to be proning out or in heavy brush. This is one of Blackhawk's imports they managed to get done well, so please try and get us some more!
Pros:
  • Good Fit adjustable, use with flap on or rolled back.
Cons:
  • Availability
Best Used for:
  • carry in thicker coverage, swimming

Flap holster

by Patriot One, Verified Owner from FL, United States Written on August 3, 2016
The biggest reason I bought this holster is design. I like the ability to use it for almost any full size SA pistol with 3 extra magazines securely. If you happen to be crawling in the bush it also protects the weapon from a lot of abuse and keeps most of the dirt from plowing in.

Tactical Shooter

by Ernie Urban, Verified Owner from TN, United States Written on July 11, 2016
I have worn this holster a few times while in the field and on the range. The Holster itself is a very nice holster. I do have a few personal issues that I don't care for. For me (And This Is My Opinion) I don't like the fact that there are these mag pouches on the opposite side of my free hand. I would like to see them offer a spare mag pouch for the side opposite the holster. I prefer not to take my sidearm out of my shooting hand to reach for another mag. The pouch on the front of the holster I use for my Tactical Light.

Do not let my opinion turn you away from this holster. The quality is above and beyond all the ones I looked at. I did however removed the velcro thumb break and prefer to use the flap cover and plastic buckle. The thumb break was not functional for me. Once the muscle memory is there it is second nature. It is very comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. I would like to see them add a second thigh strap to this rig. I would highly recommend this holster if you are looking for a good field rig. The flap covers about 98% if your sidearm. I carry a full size 1911 in mine. It will not handle a Tactical Light, but I don't use one for personal reasons.
Pros:
  • well made
  • Very functional
  • Quility
Cons:
  • Cross reach Mag pouches
  • needs 2nd thigh strap
Best Used for:
  • Tactical training/operations
  • field work
  • Range/Tactical/Hunting

Tight fit for H&K USP 45 Compact Tactical

by Mulex4, from ID, United States Written on March 22, 2015
Removed velcro thumb release strap and placed on inside. Tried to get HK in and it required some strong hand work. I have it in the holster and pulled the weather cover over it and cinched it down tight. Im letting it sit that way for a week. If things are still too tight I am going to wet holster and put pistol in plastic bag. I like the design and strength Im willing to play with it a bit. Who knows it might be a custom holster when Im done? LOL Compact Tactical is not so compact but what a shooter.

BlackHawk Tactical Special Operations Holster

by DJ, Verified Owner from KY, United States Written on November 3, 2014
This is a great holster for protecting and retaining your pistol. It's not the fastest holster but it's not designed for that. Great construction, stitching is good with quality materials used. The top flap has Velcro which will hold it up out of the way if you don't need it. There is another retention strap with a snap that will hold the pistol. This does not ride far down on the leg. The leg strap is fully adjustable that holds it firmly against you. One mag. pouch that will easily hold a double stack 17 round mag.

i got this holster for a camping/hiking rig, and dose a flawless job for those tasks. it stay in place while on the trail, or scrambling through brush or down a shale slide. its true its not the fastest drawing holster out there, but that is not what its made for, its made to protect your sidearm while your out. and it dose that to perfection.

Perfect Fit

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner Written on August 3, 2013
the pistol retention strap with the rigid part on the left and the subtle on the right seems counter intuitive. Besides
from that it's perfect and high quality.
Pros: Construction, Attachment

BEST/MOST COMFORTABLE HOLSTER ON THE MARKET!

by Legacy Reviewer, from WA, United States Written on February 26, 2013
This holster is simply hands down the best holster out there. It`s not only fairly priced but it`s the MOST COMFORTABLE you`ll ever wear! This style is light-years beyond all the thigh rigs out there, anyone that has worn a thigh rig knows how bad they bounce, not to mention will exhaust the leg if running for a while, well this holster has all the advantages of the popular thigh rigs but with the ease/comfort/&more stability of any thigh rig.I bought this holster because it`s the only one with a protective flap and wow I`m shocked of how I`m amazed of everything else that over-shadows the very reason why it was purchased.I believe in keeping my 45 completly spotless and this flap ensure that 100%.The retention strap under the flap is not only ADJUSTABLE but also REVERSABLE!! How cool is that when combined with all the other features.Everyone including myself bought into the polymore thigh rigs because of the different appearance etc.but let me tell ya once you put this holster on&notice the other great features I`m sure everyone will get rid of their polymore thigh rigs.Only suggestion I say to blackhawk is could you please widen the base so that a molle pouch could be added either infront or behind the firearm.Other than that this holster is by far the best out there.Optics planet was alittle slow on the shipping(10 business days)but my items came well packed and undamaged.Much thanks to Optics Planet for having HIGH QUALITY GEAR.
Pros: Everything!

What a great set up!!

by Legacy Reviewer, Verified Owner from AZ, United States Written on November 13, 2012
Amazing rig! I have used it on 3 different models and callibers, adjusts easily and holds all 3 very tight (ruger p-90, springfield xd9, kimber 1911). Can even be adjusted for belt size (web gear or regular belt). If I had bought this years ago I wouldn't have a box full of holsters that I'll never use again
