Yes, the sheath is just OK: not terrible, but not great. I'll probably get a better (kydex) one made for it at some point if I ever start carrying it.
And yes, better steel would be... better still.

That being said, it's still the best version I've encountered of the classic A-F combat dagger.
Commpared to the older Blackjack version, it's lighter, and livelier in hand. The micarta handle allows (for me) for a better grip in all positions. It's full-tang, and the glass-breaker is well-executed, sticks out just enough but not too much. Grind lines on the blade are perfect. Blade is shaving-sharp with a needle point.

The biggest drawback-- true for any double-edged blade-- is that it's illegal to carry in a lot of places.

I believe this is the best execution of a combat type dagger currently on the market. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it's only available in 440C steel. If it were offered in a premium steel, such as S30V or D2 for example, then I would have given it 5 stars. It is an excellent choice to be used as intended, or just to be admired as a collectible.

Benefits: Weight of the knife only is a svelte 8.35 ounces. This is excellent for it's approximate 5.7" blade length. The sheath weighs in at 5.9 oz. Weight of total system as purchased is 14.2 oz. Conceivably, you could wear the knife in a lighter Kydex sheath if you want a lighter total overall weight. However, the Spec Ops (brand) sheath is excellent, and I believe it is worth using if it integrates well into your system. The sheath is also fitted with a removable plastic blade liner. The OD green canvas micarta handle offers excellent grip, wet or dry. It won't absorb water and self-orients the knife in the hand. The glass breaker on the end of the handle protrudes just enough to get the job done. It is without excessive bulk and offers the user a less lethal option in which to deploy the blade if desired. The handle can be dissembled from the tang for cleaning. This feature is useful in the event you get it into salt water or otherwise soiled.
