K2's Review of Bootleg Inc AR-15 Four Position Adjustable Carrier

What's funny is most people buy this to help tune their suppressed rifles. Naturally adding traditional baffled can will with no exceptions run your gun way harder. So with that in mind I bought a Dead Air Lazarus 6 "flow through" can so I can avoid the all that tuning nonsense. Unfortunately for me, My DD Contract overrun 11.5 upper was horrifically over gassed out the box. How can i tell? It was pounding my shoulder like a 308 and spitting hot brass into my hand a 12 O'clock position with or without my can being on. Shoved a H3 buffer in it and it dropped it into a tolerable 2-3 O'Clock ejection pattern with recoil akin to 7.62x39 as opposed to 308. 3 Brass facts and Hop later I decided to give this thing a literal shot and see if it lived up to the hype and It sure did! On the 3rd-suppressed setting it made a very noticeable difference. Brass was kicking out around 3-5 and life was good. Even changed it to un-suppressed and checked the prior ejection pattern to make sure I wasn't placebo effecting my self and sure enough it went back to like an SKS and kicked brass at a 2-3 position again; Changed it back to the 3rd position and it worked great. If you have a cheap AR or a victim of DD's weird obsession with drilling a massive hole into the gas port, this defiantly helps a bunch! Sure it might cost just as much as a rifle speed adjustable gas-block and has significantly less positions to choose from, but it's as plug and play as it gets with little to no gunsmithing required. Pop open the upper, take out the old BCG, put this in, twist the adjustment key with a screwdriver or loose brass, maybe add a heavier buffer, profit!
It even takes regular Mil-Spec parts so I can put my DD bolt back in it if I want. But my only gripe is the bolt is not marked if It's MPI tested and both the item description on Bootlegs website and Optics Planet fails to mention it so I can only assume it's not. But at least you can just toss it and put in a Mil-Spec DD or BCM bolt for like 80 bucks if that really bothers you.
Pros:
  • plug and play
  • Is Mil-Spec and will take Mil-Spec parts
  • Adjustable with out disassembly
  • Vents extra gas as advertised
Cons:
  • No idea if its MPI tested
  • Cost as much as an riflespeed adjustable gasblock
Best Used for:
  • Suppresed AR's
  • Overgassed ARs
  • Daniel Defense Uppers
