I have long admired Boyd's stocks from afar, but finally decided to change my Remington 700 ADL LA into a BDL LA so it was time to admire a Boyd's stock up close. I ordered a stock and it took several weeks to come in, as it was on back order which is no big deal, I had to order other parts anyway. I received the stock and it was packaged very well. Upon opening the boxes I was excited and somewhat let down at once. The overall feel and shape of the stock is just what I want, a thumbhole featherweight BDL LA for hunting, but the finish of the stock lacked quality detail. It came as a matte finish, which I am pleased with, but where the machine routered out the bolt channel and the grooves along the barrel it left the wood very rough and fibrous (wood hairs standing up) especially at the terminal points. I had to inlet the stock for it to accept the magazine frame and decided while I was working on the stock I might as well sand down all the rough areas and refinish it myself once the stock has been bedded. Overall it looks and feels good except a lack of attention to detail before finishing it.
